Abnormally heavy period

Hey everyone...I'm new here and just wanted your opinion on this:

This was my first month TTC, and it clearly didn't happen. I thought I knew when I was supposed to ovulate, but in retrospect am realizing that I was probably off the mark. Anyway, I had some spotting about a week ago (which I thought might possibly be implantation bleeding), but it was followed by AF a few days later. This period has become the heaviest I've ever had (days so far of really heavy bleeding, with clumps and clots - sorry if TMI!!!), along with severe cramps. I normally get some cramps the first day, and they then go away. This time, I was practically in bed most of the day for two or three days (thank goodness I'm off from work this week).

My question is, do you think this is just a heavy period, or could there be more to it??

Thanks.

You could take a pg. test to rule out miscarriage or it might just be better to just chalk it up to a heavy period. You might be having just a heavy AF. Did you quit hormonal birth control of any kind recently? That could have very well done it as it takes sometimes months for cycles to get normal again after quiting BC.

I hope you get some relief soon. Those cramps sound bad.

Actually, I was not taking BC pills at all, so that's definitely not it. But I am going to just chalk this one up to a really bad period, because I don't know if finding out more info is going to make me feel better or worse! I'm on CD 5 now and the bleeding is normal and the cramps have stopped, but for those first few days......man, I've never experienced anything like that!!

Thanks.
