I really need to vent.

My OB office just called and gave me the results of my bloodwork. I'm pregnant, 4 weeks by my guess. That's the good part of the post. They say numbers are fine, since it's early, but I think they're really low. Hcg is 46, progesterone is 14.

The part that pissed me off is the woman calling is the receptionist, not my midwife.

Raise hell for sure. That's ridiculous. I would definitely express to the midwife that you are not comfortable speaking with the receptionist & would like to deal with her directly. The receptionist is definitely overstepping her bounds. If not, I'd be looking for a new midwife. It's not worth the stress & aggravation...

I'm sorry! That's tough! I would definitely tell the midwife that you don't want the receptionist to call you, only the midwife. You are still really early, when do you go in for the second draw? I don't know a lot about this, but I understand that as long as your numbers are going up really good, that it's all good. If you needed progesterone before, chances are you need it again, have you started that yet?
I'm sorry you had to deal with that! I hope it all turns out alright! I've got my fingers crossed for you!

I second everything everyone else has said! Tell your midwife you will not accept any information relayed from the receptionist, and only want to speak with the midwife directly. With what's already happened, she should give you the numbers for her freakin' cell phone, home phone, bat phone and whatever else she has so that you can bypass that awful person at reception. Even if she has good intentions, she's obviously not properly advising you. If they can't see what a problem this is, you really have to find care elsewhere.

I agree with everyone else, ask to talk directly to the midwife. That is terrible that the receptionist is still there after your ordeal with her. If they refuse, I would switch to a different office. That would be nerve-wracking having to play telephone with the receptionist all the time and worrying that you are not getting the right information from the midwife.

I hope everything goes well and your numbers climb. Hugs!!

First, Congratulations on your pregnancy. Second, you need to make an appt. with your midwife and express all your concerns about the low (I don't know if they are low). Then, you need to tell her that you do not want the receptionist to practice medicine on you. That is illegal and she is not a doctor. Tell her everything.

Third, I would find a new doctor all together......I do not take crap and it sounds like bad office because she has not been dealt with still and THESE ARE SERIOUS MATTER....A D+C recommendation for a patient who is NOT a candidate for one, BLANK chart! WTF!

Thanks everybody. Numbers did go up :)

I decided not to call and raise hell. I'm just not confrontational. Today I talked to a different receptionist. She was really informative and talked between me and my midwife, since my midwife was having a busy day. This lady was super nice and helpful. I know I could still push to speak to my midwife, but it seems a little unneccessary.

I did rat out the first receptionist. She wasn't very nice on the phone Tuesday, and is refusing to let me have a pregnancy verificaiton letter for insurance. The new receptionist I talked to today was much better and is getting my letter.

Thanks again for all the responses.

Grrrr, I would be SO pissed! Is there not another doc/midwife around that you can see? Or do you just really like this MW, when you actually get to talk to her?
