I received a text from my sister just after school let out yesterday about me needing to call my mom. She had important, but bad news.
Mind you, my mother and I don't talk or have a relationship. She raised me, but she made some bad choices over the years concerning men and drugs. I tried to have a relationship with her when I moved out at 18, but that hasn't gone very far either because we are just too different. She didn't come to my high school or college graduations, she didn't buy my senior year in high school stuff (my husband, then boyfriend did), she didn't buy my senior prom dress or help me get read (my husband, then boyfriend did), she didn't help me plan my wedding, come to my wedding shower, or my wedding. So, we have our issues.
Of course, upon hearing the news, I will be there to support and comfort her. I know she must be freaking out, which she tends to over react about everything anyway, so this is definitely more than she can handle. I am not even the oldest, but my sister, who is very close to my mom couldn't compose herself, so I had to step up. My mom doesn't have health or life insurance either.
I'll do what I can to help physically and financially. It's just a difficult situation on top of us TTC after a loss and remodeling.
