Need support - Low beta and no yolk sac

I had a blood draw and US last week at approximately 5 weeks, 3 days – the beta doubled in 60 hours to 2,044 (low, but not dire), and there was an 11mm gestational sac with no yolk sac or fetal pole (scary). The RE was not particularly encouraged, but didn’t want to “editorialize too much.” Great! Thanks! I had another blood draw today. Unfortunately, the only info I will get from it is negative. If the number comes back below 8,000, then it is probably just a matter of time before this pregnancy is over. If it comes back above 8,000 then there is still a chance that this bean _might_ stick. Unfortunately, I have to wait until Monday for my next US. I may lose my mind between now and then! I almost begged for an US today when I went for my BW, but decided at just over 6 weeks, it’s possible that there might still be just a sac, and it may not mean anything. It’s like POAS at 9 DPO…if you get the BFP you feel great, but if you don’t it’s not indicative of anything, but makes you sad. It’s not definitively a blighted ovum until after 8 weeks.

My symptoms are pretty mild this time…slightly nauseated, slightly tired, slightly irritable, slightly tender bbs, but nothing earth-shattering. The only thing that is off the charts is my blood glucose level (I am not diabetic when I'm not pg, but it's my first symptom when I get pg), but the developing placenta (which can form without an embryo) is responsible for that, so even that isn’t a good indicator of the health of the pregnancy. Ugh! This really sucks!

Any P&PTs you have to spare would be appreciated. I am really freaked out!

Thanks!

Well, it looks like it's going to be over for me. The level was only 6,200, so it's well below where it should be. Now I just have to wait for my body to figure it out. The nurse tried to be upbeat, and they want me to come in on Monday for the US and more blood work, but the writing is on the wall, I think. Now I just have to get my head around it. This sucks!

Susie,

I'm so sorry you are going through this anxiety and worry. Your betas are encouraging up to this point, so try not to focus too much on what they did or did not see at your last u/s. So many pregnancies aren't monitored by u/s that early in the pregnancy...so who is to say what is "really" the average at that point? For all we know, most of the pregnancies that aren't monitored would be showing exactly what you are seeing.

I'm going to reiterate what I told Averi when she got her low betas...I think early testing is B.S.! It really doesn't tell you anything about the health of the pregnancy and just makes moms upset and nervous. It makes me crazy that they are forcing you to wait so long to check again. Clearly it has made you sick with worry!

Take care, sweetie, and keep us posted. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Susie, you may have already stumbled across this story on the web, but I thought it was relevant to your situation in case you have not. This woman was told she had a blighted ovum but she refused the D & C...and at 9 weeks, they finally were able to see her baby, complete with a little beating heart. So don't give up hope! We'll all grieve with you if this little one is not to be, but we're going to keep up the faith and prayers until we know for sure otherwise.

HUGS.
