New- TTC & Femara
| Mon, 03-07-2011 - 7:05pm |
Hi! I just wanted to introduce myself. I am a mother of 1 and my husband and I are TTC. He has no biological children of his own. I started Femara last month (tomorrow is the last day of my first cycle month on the fertility treatment).
Is anyone else on this treatment? So far the only bad side effects are from the estrodiol. I cramp very bad and when I take it, which helps me ovulate, my ovaries hurt and I cramp very badly! Thankfully I only take it a few days a month so it doesn't last too long.
Anyway - just wanted to introduce myself. This is my first time on a TTC board and am hoping to find it useful and supportive!

Welcome to the boards!
Are you on any hornones besides the Femara?
I'm just on the Femera. I'm having surgery at they end of the month to fix a blocked tube, but once \I have recovered from the surgery I will be doing IUI. I ovulate on my own, but because I only have one tube that is functional we're trying to up my odds by making sure that both ovaries produce at least one follicle/egg every month.
Did you do an U/S to see how you responded? What does prometrium do?
"Prometrium is a drug used in infertility that escalaties the quantity of progesterone your body requires during pregnancy. Progesterone is a female hormone required for the effective functioning of the reproductive system. It also protects the lining of the uterus. When progesterone levels are low, women (before their menopause ) are not able to conceive as this adversely affects their menstrual and ovulation cycle. In such a case when there is lack of natural progesterone in the body, Prometrium is given so that a woman gets her menstrual periods and is ready to conceive.
When Prometrium is used for infertility , it is usually given till a woman conceives but sometimes; Prometrium is also used to prevent miscarriages. In such a case, Prometrium is given both, before and after conception. Prometrium can be administered in the form of pills, injections or vaginal suppositories depending on your situation. Your physician will be the best judge about the method that works the best for you.
The dosage amount of Prometrium used in infertility may vary from person to person. Make sure you have taken all your medical tests, including your blood and thyroid tests. Speak with your doctor clearly as to the dose of progesterone that you require. Also, let your doctor go through the side effects with you so that you are completely aware what you may be going in for. Headaches, stomach cramps, mood swings, fever, constipation, lethargy and tenderness in breasts are some common reactions to the drug. Some not so common ones include shortness of breath, seizures, vaginal bleeding and severe chest pain. Inform your doctor right away about these serious side effects before to avoid further complications."

I have also had 2 surgeries in the last 16 months. Longstory short with the last one I had endometriosis, ruptured cysts on my ovaries, my uterus lifted (it was low lying and my OB believes I still have endometriosis but inside and it was and still causes a lot of back pain, but is much better since having it lifted), and my small intestines were wrapped around my appendix. It was am awful recovery. But I'm doing much better. I still deal with a lot of pain and take meds to help with the side effects from the endometriosis, not to mention I'm back to have just awful periods since being off the pill. It's tough, but at least Dh and I can finally usually have sex without me being in a lot of pain.
It's been a rough couple of years and even when I was pregnant with DS I had a lot of complications. Hoping to get pregnant soon, have a safe and healthy pregnancy, and then unless things get better I will likely have to have a hysterectomy.
I think we'll be taking our Femera at almost the same time. You'll have to keep me updated on how you are doing!
Oh btw about the u/s - I forgot to call my dr til the 12th day of my cycle to get in. He could've squeezed me in but it was a crazy day at work and tree would've been a long wait. So unless I'm pregnant I'll do it this time around which will be late next week.
You only take it for 3 days? I take it for 5.
I haven't taken a test. So if I'm pregnant I don't know it yet. I'm waiting until I'm late on my period to test. So this week:)
It's hard to tell because I have pregnancy symptoms when I'm about to start. Which I should be. And I also am cramping bad since yesterday...so I don't know. Trying not to get my hopes up. I knew when I got pregnant with my son. I hadn't even missed my period and I just KNEW it. And I was on the pill. Literally woke up at 2am on a Sunday night/monday morning. Tested and it was positive. Not sure if my instincts will be the same this go around or not. I've never TTC before now with Dh!
