ttc, first, lingo?

Hi there, I'm pretty new here and I've posted once but reading through some posts, it's like a foreign language. So is there anyone who could please help me with the lingo? Thanks.

Also, I guess I'm here to reach out because my partner and I haven't told anyone we're close to that we're ttc. I would love some support, but we feel that reaching out to people we know before we are pregnant could possibly bring about some negativity and we don't want to deal with that. We are happy in our choice and feel that we have a great environment to bring a new child into, so we aren't saying anything to our families until there is no basis for discouragement.
That being said, I am not one to keep things quiet, I need much more encouragement than my partner seems to need, do here I am reaching out to people I don't know!

As long as your urine is concentrated that's the important part....that's why FMU is important.  So if you can go 3-4 hours without drinking much and not peeing then you could test any time of the day.  They say to make sure your urine is dark in color - that's how you know it's not watered down too much.

Again, to be safe I like to test with FMU until i get a positive - then I begin testing whenever just to see the result is still positive.  But if you're PG it shouldn't really matter when you test.

Hope that makes sense.

Yes, BFN = Big Fat Negative....sorry - it takes time to get the lingo.  BFP = Big Fat Positive :smileywink:

Hmmmm...well totally up to you then.  Maybe you could test after SO gets home from work? i know they say FMU (first morning urine) is the best, but when I got my positive with DD (darling daughter) I got a BFP in the morning with FMU and then at 2pm when I tested again just to see another positive.  If you're pregnant, you're pregnant....no matter when you test.  Again, the further you are away from your AF starting, the more necessary it is to use FMU (since your urine will be more concentrated).

Maybe ask what SO prefers?  DH and I just talked about this this morning and he said he'd rather me "surprise him" with the result then watching the stick turn positive or negative.  So he knows that we should find out this week, but he doesn't know if/when I test....I'll tell him when there's a clear answer.  Everyone is different :smileyhappy:

I think the answer you will get will vary greatly person to person.....unfortunately a lot of the "early pregnancy" symptoms can also be similar to AF symptoms - so it's really hard to KNOW :smileysad:  If you want to test early and don't mind the possible BFN or even false positive I say go for it....but i tend to wait until AF is a no-show (or I have very clear signs on my chart - like an implantation dip)....but even the dip I had on Saturday is returning BFN results at this point (AF due today) so who knows......

It's great to have you here, welcome :smileyhappy: I like your tactic of staying mum until you have news to share, people can just say the most unsupportive things without even thinking about it!

Here is a link to all the acronyms that are used on the board, I hope it clears up any confusion:

If there are any you find that aren't on the list, don't hesitate to ask :smileyhappy:
