14 dpo - too early to test?

Hi, my question is really similar to the person who just posted a question. I O'd (according to my OPK) on the 24th or 25th of last month. Now tomorrow is 14 dpo and I really want to know if I'm pregnant. Is it too early to test? I have a First Response pregnancy test, which is supposed to tell days earlier. This is our first try after back to back miscarraiges so I am very nervous! Tomorrow is our 11th anniversary so I'd really like to know (also I'd like to know if I can or cannot celebrate with a glass of wine...LOL!)

TIA

Bonnie, mom to Ian 8/27/2000 and 2 angels (11/02 & 5/03)

I am so sorry for your miscarriages...I have to ask what has your doctor done or said about them...??..any tests...and conclusions...I know most docs will wait till the third in a row..but I think that is too many..one loss is one loss too many...14 dpo is not too soon...try it with the first response..see what happens..it may be a faint BFP..but it should show...if not wait till day af is due and use fmu...hope everything works out..one more thing..with your history of miscarriage..just in my opinion..I wouldnt' risk the wine...not saying it would or wouldn't...I just don't like to take the risk...

Thanks

I did go through all the tests. With both m/c I had a D & C. The first one was at 6 1/2 weeks but I didn't find out until almost 10 from an u/s. The second was at 12 weeks but I didn't find out until after 14 weeks from an u/s. The second time they sent the baby in for testing and found there was nothing wrong with him. Since I just turned 35 I said I didn't want to wait and went to see a reproductive endrocrinologist (sp??). They did some tests. I had an HSG done and it revealed that there was nothing wrong. Then I did a bunch of bloodwork to see if I had a clotting disorder. I didn't. Then they did a pooled progesterone test to see if I had low progesterone. I did. So this time the dr. said to try again and I was put on progesterone 4 days after I o'd. Hopefully this will help!

Thanks. I'll test tomorrow morning.

If he has put you on progesterone...is it suppositories...if it is I would still have levels monitored during treatment..as well as you may even consider using (depending on your part of the country) pills with progesterone...or like myself I used progesterone in oil shots...just thought I would see if you had this information...good luck to you...

Sorry for your M/C. 14DPO is soon enough to test and I hope it works out for you this time BFP vibes to you.

Yes, it is suppositories (sp). My fertility doc said that once I get a positive test to call her right away to schedule an appointment for the next week. She'll want to do lots of bloodwork to test my progesterone and thyroid and other stuff I assume. I do have a thyroid problem and am on thyroid meds but I don't know the levels when I'm pregnant. I'll want that closely monitored too.

Yes with thyroid you don't want not to be monitored with that...that in itself can cause miscarriage...but as long as you are taking meds I would relax..make sure she monitors the progesterone..like I said the suppositories did not work for me..and even while being pg...mine dipped to 8.5 level..so I went to the progesterone in oil shots to ensure healthy out come..I just wanted to mention also..this is just for your info..there have been studies preformed that drinking green tea while ttcing..is good for avoiding miscarriage...it is high in antioxidants and there helps with bad chromosonal problems..I did this with my pgs..not saying it works..but I try anything for good outcomes...be sure to read caffeine intake..cannot remember if it even has any in it..but I don't think it does or the amount is very very low...so good luck and any more questions concerning testing and such...just ask...

I don't know what my progesterone levels are right now but my levels in the pooled progesterone blood tests were 6.7. Yikes! That sounds really low now if yours were 8.5 or so. Well, I guess it's best for me to find out ASAP so I can get in to get tested for progesterone soon.

Take care

Now take into consideration..I guess I should have mentioned this..that was was a draw at about 8 weeks pg...the doc I was seeing at the time said that most pg's levels should be around 16....and especially so since my levels continued to drop during the pg till the progesterone therapy...so I am not sure if the difference is that great of a deal at the beginning..given that in time hcg and progesterone both build...just wanted to let you know so you didn't panic..I didn't mean to have that effect on you...and sorry if I did frighten you..I think you should be fine...

good luck
