73 days NO AF - Dr appt. tom. - HELP :)

Hello :)

I have another dr. appt. (finally) tomorrow with a NEW dr. (The last one didnt spend even 5 minutes with me and ordered $5000 worth of blood tests - so I am going for another doctor.)

Is there anyone out there who has skipped AF for this long? I have not been on BCP for several years, so I know that isnt a factor. My last AF was late too. And when it finally came, it was short lived.

Otherwise my cycles have always been 28-35 days.

I am hoping they will put me on provera to jump start AF....but does anyone else have any suggestions on what else I may want to do??

I really hope I can get on provera, jump start AF, then get on clomid.

I get scared thinking there could be serious problems because AF has been gone so long, so if anyone could share a story I would be so, SO grateful!!

Also, I still have abundant EWCM - it has been this way for about 65 days now.

Any suggestions?

Thanks so much for your help!!

YAY new Dr.

Although I don't have the same issues you are having.... I can offer;

* Make notes before you go in, I always get in and forget everything I wanted to ask.

* Take a list of the other tests the "bad" Dr. wanted done so you can ask what exactly they are and why would the other doctor have skipped the most basic tests.

* Make a list of treatments you have seen posted here (hopefully that people will post) so you can ask you new Dr. about them. Like the B6 vitimins, fish oil, wild yam, all the goodies that get passed around here. Since its a Dr. with Midwives they may be open to more "alternative" things also.

* Take your list of CM and cycles.

Thats all I've got for now.

Did I say YAY for the new Dr.????

I've gone 184 days without AF before, and when she showed up it was only thanks to progesterone. My course of treatment included taking the progesterone to induce bleeding the first time, and then waiting to get my period within 35 days. After it took 42 days for my AF, I had my official "IF consult" (with a new doctor). I had another AF induced with Prometrium, then started Clomid. The good news is, my body had a very positive reaction to the Clomid and I had just a 33 day cycle (my shortest in a LONG time).

Your test results from your last doctor might be moot... generally the best day for most hormone level tests is on CD3. Make sure you get your LH, FSH, DHEAS and prolactin levels. Also be sure to mention the 65 days of abundant EWCM - that's definitely not typical. I don't have my TCOYF book right now, but I believe it's got an explanation for it somewhere (if you don't own Taking Charge of Your Fertility, I highly recommend getting your hands on a copy!).

Your doctor will most likely prescribe some form of progesterone to you (brand names Provera, Prometrium, etc.). After you get your progesterone withdrawal bleeding, you may wait a cycle to see if that "kick-started" your system, OR if it sounds like you've been anovulatory for a while you may just get Clomid right away. If you go on Clomid, be sure to request some form of monitoring - whether follie u/s, CD21 PLs, etc., and start charting your temps.

Good luck to you!

Stephanie - good luck at your doctor's appointment. I just wanted to add another note about the persistent EWCM... I posted in reply to you earlier and mentioned that TCOYF had a section on it, but I couldn't remember what it meant. It's been bugging me all day!!! Anyhoo, here goes, straight from the horse's mouth (or rather, blatantly plagiarized from TCOYF):

If you notice a continuous creamy or eggwhite-quality cervical fluid that extends for weeks at a time, it could be an indication of excessively high levels of estrogen due to, among other conditions, PCOS or low thyroid function. Some of the other symptoms of the latter condition include unusually long cycles with low waking temperatures. If you suspect you have either of these problems, you should consult a doctor...

Another common condition that can cause a prolonged phase of wet cervical fluid, often with a delayed Peak Day, is ovarian cysts...

Prolonged wet cervical fluid can also be caused by stress. The classic stress-induced pattern usually consists of patches of wet cervical fluid as your body keeps attempting to ovulate, causing what appear to be split-peak days...

Stephanie, I am so sorry you are going through this. How frustrating!

I just wanted to relate that my SIL who is currently on Clomid went 8 months with no AF about a year and a half ago, then AF just showed up one day. When she and my brother married last year and decided to start TTC right away, I told her what I had read about PCOS (a lot of which was from this board). She was tested and does have it. She had a couple of "normal" length cycles when first TTC, but then went about 55 days or more without AF and no BFP, thus the PCOS diagnosis when she consulted her doc. So, it sounds like that may be the culprit.

I am so sorry again, and I hope your new doc gives you some answers. Good for you for taking charge of your own health and seeing a new doc. Good luck!!
