9 day luteal phase

Hello Ladies,

I'm new here with a questions. I just started charting (link to chart below) and was surprised that my luteal phase was only 9 days long. Shouldn't it be 14? Does anyone know how this would affect my attempt at ttc?

Thanks for your advice,

Luteal phases are normally 12-16 days long. Anything less than 10 days could be problematic for sustaining a pregnancy. Call your Dr. about your short luteal phase and see what he recommends. He will probably do some blood work and may perscribe progesterone. But, I'm no Dr., so his advice is best. Good Luck, Marcy

Hello,

It looks like the cycle prior to the 9 day LP was a 12 day LP? Am I reading your charts correctly? Before my first ds, I had a luteal phase of 10 days. They do say that anything less than that is problematic. I started taking vitamin B6 and B12, which is supposed to help lengthen LP. I don't know for sure if that's what did it, but I got pg that next month and stayed pg with him (prior to that, I was not even getting pg). HTH and check with your doctor. They can check your progesterone. Good luck!

I have been charting for 6 months now and have consistently had an 8 or 9 day luteal phase. Because it's been short for so long, my Dr. is prescribing Clomid next cycle. Clomid is supposed to give a "stronger" ovulation and therefore a longer LP with better progesterone production. I praying that I get pg this month, despite my LP defect because I really didn't want to resort to drugs. However, B6 is not producing any dramatic change for me and I've been taking 200mg with my Dr.'s o.k.

I would suggest taking B6 and charting for 1 or 2 more cycles. If nothing changes, make an appointment with your doctor and show her your charts.

Good luck!

Yep, it clearly looks like a 9-day LP. Anything under 10 is supposed to be unlikely to sustain a pregnancy. However, your LP on the previous cycle was 14 days. My guess is that last month was just a fluke. If it happens again this cycle, I would see a doctor. But my guess is it was just one of those things that happen to all of us.

Thank you everyone for your advice!

I will try the B6 and see how that works over the next few cycles. Otherwise I'll go see my doctor. I hope this was just a fluke. Good luck to you all!

Yeah, I had a short luteal phase, I did my own research, my OB sent me to a specialist, he put me on Progesterone and I was pregnant first try after 18 months of trying...I now have my second son who is 3 months old. Definitely talk to you DR about you luteal phase....Bekki
