Accuracy of "HPTs" from the ER?

So my mom works as an ER nurse and she gave me some pee tests from her work. They look quite similar to the dollar store HPTs, but I can't find any concrete evidence of their sensitivity. I read somewhere that they are exactly the same as the cheapies measuring 25 mlU/mL. But I've also read they are less sensitive than store bought HPTs, measuring 50-100 mlU/mL. So should I even bother using them since I'm testing early? Should I just stick to my dollar store tests?

What I've read seems the same as you. Some people say they are extra sensitive, some say they're not. Personally, I think they are closer to measuring 100 than 25. My guess is hospitals spend more money on things they deem more important, and probably keep on using the same kinds of HPTs for years. Maybe you could ask your mom what the name on the box says so you have more to Google?

I wouldn't be so hard on yourself maybeababy! It's pretty rare to see positives at 9dpo & often times people may be "off" on their dpo count & get a +. Plus, it's completely normal not to feel prego & end up seeing a bfp, just as it's completely normal to feel prego & end up with a bfn. At 9dpo, there's also a chance implantation hasn't even happened, hence no symptoms.

Ttc sucks :( Sorry its taking such a toll on your emotions this time around. If you can help it, I'd try & hold out until at least 12dpo before testing again...

Lex, I'd *guess* the er tests probably won't register the positive until you're late. I don't think they'd be spending the money for early detection. That being said, they're still free & you like to pee on things so pee away ;)

Thanks for the pick me up :) Those are good words of advice and reminders! I think I will spend the weekend not testing anymore and then use my last dollar test on Monday. At least then I can keep hopes up that I could be pregnant without the dumb test telling me I'm wrong, lol.

No worries! That's what we're here for :) Sometimes it's better not knowing -then you can keep the hope alive as long as possible ;) We've had a great run of bfps lately & I have a feeling we'll be seeing lots more!

I agree with Angela! :) The ER and most Drs. won't test until your AF is late because any earlier than that, you risk catching a chemical pregnancy. So, of course they don't spend the money on it. Most Drs. believe women should wait to test until they are officially late. But if they're free, have fun peeing on them! :D

As far as counting yourself out at 9dpo because you don't feel pregnant, don't even fret over it. The average woman doesn't really feel symptoms until they actually know they are pregnant! AF and early pregnancy symptoms are identical in most cases. And the morning sickness, etc doesn't show up until around 8 weeks (in most cases). Anything before 12dpo is considered early and there's always a chance there just isn't enough HCG in your system yet.

Good Luck!
