Ok so while i am not TTC, I am on acne meds that keep my face until control. Now that I am TTC, I am off all meds and am not using any topicals. I wash with Benzoyl Perioxide soap (which is ok during pregnancy). Anyway, my face is a freakin MESS!!! Anyone know anything you can take or any home remedies that might help? I look like I'm 16 years old....worse actually.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey there...

So the problem with dermatologists is, they are educated in skin physiology-not reproductive toxicity.

Even most OBs don't know as much about teratology as I personally think they should. I read on these boards that OBs say it's "Safe" to use salicylic (for example). I find that shameful. There are PROVEN LINKS to birth defects-so for anyone-especially a caregiver-to use the word "safe" is completely irresponsible.

The fact of the matter is salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, aloe vera, rosemary, and a laundry list of other ingredients have been linked to birth defects in published medical research. It's a Fact. Period. End of Story.

So, they questions is: are we willing to take the risk? Even if the links

Thanks for all your replies ladies! It helps to know others are going thru this crappy acne stuff as well! I know it is all for a bigger purpose but it still majorly SUCKS!!!!! I feel so embarassed to even go out of the house and have been wearing heavy makeup and a hat for weeks. Today my 22-month old son pointed out one of my zits and said "boo-boo?"...

Anyway, b/c my acne is cysic acne due to hormonal changes, soaps aren't really making a difference. I need DRUGS...lol. So FYI: any Catergory B topicals/drugs are safe to use during pregnancy. Topicals-

I was just thinking about this today and was going to come here to grumble. Glad to hear I'm not the only one suffering with acne after going on birth control..
Although, It would be nice to not have to deal with it at all, huh?

I've struggled with acne since I was 13. It is so depressing and NOTHING topical has ever worked for me. Mine is hormonally based because Yasmin BCP cleared it up. When I started TTC 11 months ago and went off Yasmin, my face exploded again. Now, here's the bright side. After I started taking vitamin B6 to help regulate my period, my face cleared up. I can't be positive that B6 is why, but I don't know any other reason why my acne would improve so much. On clomid and B6, my cycles are regular, so therefore I guess my hormones aren't so out of wack. I usually break out horribly during PMS, but this time I had 1 zit. It's worth a try if you struggle as I did and have tried everything, but it did take a couple of months to kick in.

Well, I guess we're all in this horrible boat together. Topicals don't work (not very well) and we can take any pills. It wouldn't be so bad except that I am getting married in 20 days! My face is going to look horrible in all the pictures. As you can see by my age below, it's not something that you grow out of (sorry to break that bad news). I'll be popping zits when I'm in the nursing home.

I have struggled with ache my whole life. Before my wedding I tried Accutane which cleared my skin but also raised my cholesterol 70 points, made me hair fall out, caused at least one chemical pregnancy, and made my moods crazy. So needless to say I don't recomend that, not that you could since you are TTC but moving on... I tried Bare Essentials Rare Minerals AFTER accutane wore off. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Its amazing. Its also the only make-up I use. All natural, safe etc. The acne treatment rare minerals is amazing. I use the cleanser and the blemish treament. It is a little expensive, no doubt, but honestly after all the thousands I've spent on everything else to finally find something that works is so awesome. UGH, I sound like to commercial, sorry. Anyways I love it and you can get it at Sephora, online, or QVC is always showing a commercial about it. Good luck!

OK so dermatologists will probably KILL me for suggesting this. But has anyone tried tanning? I KNOW its bad for my skin in excess and can cause wrinkles but since I went off of tricyclin my face has been a mess and the acne coupled with unsuccessful TTC is making me a complete grouch.
I went tanning once 2 weeks ago (10 minutes in a stand up bed) and it was a good temporary fix. It really dried up the break outs. Unfortunately its not a long term fix but I figure if I go once every 2 weeks its not the end of the world.
Keep in mind - I'm not pregnant yet. I didn't think tanning was recommended during pregnancy but my friend was having horrible break outs during her pregnancy and her doctor actually recommended that she tanned every once in a while.
Just thought I'd share, I know, I know, tanning is evil :)
