AF lasts long--normal?

After spending the better part of 10 years on BCP, I knew it would take some time for my body to return to normal, but... I have had a regular 24 day cycle since I quit BCP, but in 3 of the 4 cycles so far, I've started spotting around CD 18-20, and then AF comes and lasts a good 4-5 days or so, making me bleed for about 10 out of 24 days. I think this seems too long to be reasonable--I mean, that's cutting into my fun almost half of every month! But I don't remember what it was like before BCP, and obvisously I'm not the typical 28-day girl, so ... I left message for my nurse practitioner last Thursday, but she didn't return my call yet (igh!) so I'm flailing. Does anyone else have this sort of cycle, and have you had it confirmed as "normal"? I'm wondering if I'm having some sort of hormone imbalance or something? And, of course, as I totally obsess, I appreciate your support!

I wouldn't worry about it too much, but checking with your dr/nurse is probably a good idea too. My periods are 7 days long, with clots every month. My mother also had week-long periods. Some women are not as lucky as others I guess. :(

I'd recommend talking to your doctor about this; it could be perfectly normal, or there might be an issue. A couple of days of spotting before AF is considered quite normal, BUT anything more than that is possibly considered "abnormal bleeding" and could be a sign of a luteal phase problem.

Good luck to you!
