Alcohol in the 2WW??
| Mon, 02-02-2009 - 8:52pm |
Is it okay to drink in the early part of the 2WW? Tomorrow is my birthday and DH arranged for a babysitter and claims he's taking me out to dinner and a movie, so I'm wondering if I can have a glass of wine or margarita? I will be 4 dpo. Is that safe?

My understanding is that until implantation, what you consume does not get passed to the baby. Implantation usually occurs around 6-12 dpo I think, so I'd say you're safe. At least, I would go ahead and drink for my birthday at 4dpo... but I'm certainly not an expert :)
Happy birthday!
My doctor said you can drink anytime during the two week wait because even after implantation the little bean is not getting any nutrients from you yet. She said
I talked my Dr. about this when I was TTC #1...her response...why would you do that when you know you will already have 9 months of not drinking ahead of you?! LOL Her theory is that it could easily take a year to get preggo so why would I not drink during that whole time? Also, in other countries it is normal to drink a glass of wine even when you are pregnant. So I'm not saying to go out and get drunk...but a drink or two before you confirm you are pregnant shouldn't hurt.
Hope you enjoy your birthday!

Ok, I have a question for y'all. I am in my 2WW (O'd on 2/4 via Femara and had an IUI) and I had 2 glasses of wine at dinner on Valentine's day with my DH. A couple of hours after we arrived home, I got nauseous so I went to bed (poor DH haha). Within an hour of trying to sleep I started vomiting...I mean like violently vomiting-- I haven't thrown up that much since I was a kid! Ugh. Anyway...has anything like this happened to anyone? My DH and I both had the exact same thing to eat (the whole day) and he didn't get sick so I doubt it's food poisoning. Could it be that a little one didn't like the particular kind of wine that I drank or is my body just messing with me? Hopefully we'll find out some good news in a couple of days-- anxiously waiting. :)
Any idea what this was all about??
Thanks all!

Hi Beezbref,
Increased sensitivity to alcohol can be a symptom of early pregnancy due to the increased hormones. At 10 dpo, it is certainly possible. If you aren't taking any other med's (like progesterone) than this could be the reason you got so sick from the wine.
Fingers crossed for you!!!!!!!

Thank you, babylb!! I was secretly hoping for that answer. haha :) I honestly can't think of any other reason why I would have gotten sick like that. Over the past few days I've had little "waves" of nauseousness but nothing like I had the night of Valentine's day. I'm keeping my fingers crossed too!!! My doc says I can test on Weds or Thurs of this week. I'll let you know. :)
Thanks again!!! I really appreciate the response. :)
