Alcohol in the 2WW??

Is it okay to drink in the early part of the 2WW? Tomorrow is my birthday and DH arranged for a babysitter and claims he's taking me out to dinner and a movie, so I'm wondering if I can have a glass of wine or margarita? I will be 4 dpo. Is that safe?

That's interesting to hear that dr's are saying alcohol is ok during the 2ww. I've always tried to play it safe, if I thought I could be pregnant. But, intuitively, I've always thought - well, it takes time to meet up, travel down, implant, and start drawing from my body. I still try to play it safe though. Especially since I just had a m/c and I certainly don't want to risk another one of those!

beezbref~ I'm on Femara with an IUI this cycle too! I test on Thursday. I've noticed over several cycles that the Femara really revs up my progesterone level post-O causing some nausea and sleepiness and a much longer LP. Unfortunetly no BFP yet though. I think your reaction had to do with increased progesterone mixed with the alcohol, but I'm still very hopeful you'll get your BFP!! How long have you been ttc? Good luck!!

Hi Melissa,

I test on Thursday too!! Did you have your IUI on the 4th also? I'll be wishing us BOTH big fat wishes for a BFP! :o)
I am 38 years old and we have been ttc our first baby for 8 months now. This was my first round of Femara and first IUI.
Did you notice anything weird about your BBT charts after you took the Femara? My temps were all over the place-- normally they're quite predictable. I experienced the nausea and sleepiness also. In fact, it's 9am and I'm ready for my first nap of the day. LOL
It's SO nice to know that someone else is in my boat. My friends don't understand, can't relate and some have been just plain rude and mean about it. Thank goodness for all the lovely ladies of this message board. :o)

Thanks for the encouragement, Melissa!! I'll be sending good thoughts your way for a BFP on Thurs!! Please keep me posted!

Danielle

Danielle,

I'm 36 and I've been ttc #1 for about 16 months. You can see in my siggy, but I've been on Femara for about 4 cycles w/out IUI and one with IUI and I had lap surgery in between. So this is my second IUI with Femara and I only had one follie mature (as compared to 3 last time). My IUI was on the 7th and my beta actually isn't until Monday, but I was going to poas on Thursday, but now I think I've changed my mind and I'll wait (already chickening out! LOL) until Monday.

My temp charts didn't change much with Femara, but my O date got earlier (like really early on cd 11 every time). Did you take the trigger shot? Because I think that can make your temps a little more erratic too. I haven't been temping on my IUI cycles, because I know it will just make me obsess and worry more about whether we missed my O. If this ctcle doesn't work, I'm done with Femara. I need to move onto something else!

You said some of your friends were being mean to you. How so? I can't imagine why they would want to be mean to someone struggling with something so important as wanting to get pregnant and have a family. That makes me mad! I'm curious as to how they are being mean.

I will be waiting to see your BFP on Thursday- keep me posted :0)

Hey Melissa!

Sorry...I didn't see your signature where it explains your situation. Duh. I read too fast sometimes. lol :o)

Well, I jumped the gun and poas last night (I wrote a post about it this morning). I got a BFP last night but remembered what my doc said about a false positive so I was cautiously happy and figured I'd test again this morning. I didn't have the same luck-- it was negative this morning. But again, I remembered what my doc said about not taking a negative too close to heart either. Argh. Frustrating. I guess I'll just have to wait to see if AF shows up. Unless you have a different opinion.

Yes, I took the trigger shot-- the day before they did the IUI.

I think you were VERY smart to not chart your temps during your IUI cycles! Because I'm doing what you feared that you would do-- obsess about missing the O! My chart showed that I O'd on the 12 instead of the 4th so now I'm wondering if we missed it (which I shouldn't wonder...I know) :o)

Oh, regarding the mean girls thing (I love that movie, btw haha). Let me start by saying that not ALL my girlfriends are being mean...some of them are being unbelievably wonderful but there are a handful who apparently have an issue with me trying to get pregnant. I was always somewhat of the "social director" of our group of friends. So when I stopped going out to the bars (gotta get healthy for baby!) and stopped going to parties they started the "talk". It's honestly like dealing with 15 year olds. A couple of friends always complain to me about not getting drunk with them anymore and say things like "we just want our friend Danielle back" and the other comment that immediately comes to mind is (this is the one that hurt the most) one girl saw me drinking a beer 2 weeks ago and said "Oh I see that trying to have a baby hasn't put a crimp in your alcohol consumption. What kind of Mother do you think YOU'LL be?". I can honestly tell you that I have probably had a grand total of 2 drinks a month for the past 9 months-- it's not like I'm an alcoholic or used to be. Ugh. There's also a ton of other comments that I won't go into. It's just hard b/c when I try to talk to them about my struggles to conceive, they just kind of turn away and don't want to hear it. So, I've just stopped talking about it.

Thank you for letting me vent. I needed to get that out....and I'm sure (even though he is wonderful and says he's not) I'm sure DH is tired of hearing about it.

Danielle,

Sometimes it's great to vent on here :0) It sounds like some of your friends are being pretty immature. Are they all single and not wanting children? Anyway, I'm sorry you're getting some grief. I would suggest spending more time with your supportive friends for the time being.

I'm excited that you got a BFP last night. If you did the trigger shot on the 3rd then it should have been way out of your system by last night. I don't think it was a false + from the trigger. I'm guessing more likely this morning it was a false - for some reason. Keep me posted- if I were you I would test tomorrow morning again. Good-luck!

Hey Melissa,

Well, the dreaded AF showed up this morning. It's very light but unmistakable. :o( I'm bummed but life goes on, right? :o) I go in for my ultrasound tomorrow and start the Femara/IUI process all over again. I'm also going in for an acupuncture consultation tomorrow. Have you tried it...or know of anyone who has?

Yes, my friends are very immature for their age (most in their late 30's, early 40's). They're all single, some have children- some don't, spend 90% of their time in the bar and all have messed up relationships. My supportive friends say that it's just b/c they're jealous that I have something they want (loving relationship, bright future). I guess. I understand why they do it...it just hurts. So yes, MORE time with my GOOD friends. :o)

Sooo...ok, back to you. Are you still going to wait until your appt on Monday or are you going to test today?? I have all fingers and toes crossed for you!! Sending you TONS of my very best wishes!!! Let me know how it goes.

Danielle

Melissa,

Yes, please let me know. I'll be hoping for good news for you!!

Yeah, you might want to go to someone who is trained specifically in infertility (God, I hate that word). Check out www.acufinder.com You can search by your zip code and if you do the advanced search you will see the area of expertise dropdown list. I'll let you know how my appointment goes.

Best of luck on Monday! I'll be thinking about you! :o) Baby dust!

Oh, quick question...how do I change the color and font of my signature? I'm being dense and can't figure it out. lol Thanks girl.

I'm 38 and have been trying to conceive since July 2008. I had my first IUI with Femara on Feb 4th and AF (the meanie) showed up. I was lucky enough to find my Mr. Perfect 2 years ago and we have 2 goofy but lovable pups! :o)

Do you use internet explorer? If you do, there are tabs just above where you write that show color and font and size etc. If you use mac or firefox, you may not be able to.

Thanks, I may call this place called harmony Acupuncture, they work in conjunction with an IVF program in my area!
