All u never wanted to know about sperm

Hi, everyone! I have some across come info lately that I figured I'd share.

1. I asked my Dr. today about the semen leakage issue after BD. She said that the ones that are going to swim take off swimming immediately and are up through the cervix in the blink of an eye so they don't leak out. I have heard this a thousand times on the board, but it was nice to hear it from her also. But then I got to wondering exactly how fast those little buggers swim. So I searched on the internet and found out that they swim about 5-8 inches in an hour. Distance from the cervix to the eggie? About 7 inches. And then because I had too much time on my hands, I wondered whether humans or sperm swim faster for their body size. As it turns out, humans (well, the fastest ones) are about twice as fast (I was cheering for the spermies, don't really know why).

In other news,

2. Probably few if any of you have had this problem before, but if it ever happens, it's disconcerting, so I figured I'd write about it. I was having some post-BD spotting for about 3 weeks at the end of one cycle and beginning of the next. I've NEVER had that before (not even after my first time), so it worried me. But my Ob/Gyn said that it can just be cervical irritation and if you're not at risk for STDs and have had a normal PAP within the last year, not to worry about it unless it gets heavy or doesn't eventually stop.

3. I found a website with some interesting info on age and monthly chances of conceiving. The link goes directly to those charts, but there is some other good info on the page if you feel like scanning it.

So that's my random info that nobody asked for. Enjoy!

Thanks Anne!

Me and my DH were laughing for like 5 minutes while we were reading your post.

I was also wondering about the leakage, so that was helpfull to know.

Anne,

Thanks for the "random info" - that was an awesome website! Explained a lot of things I'd been wondering about! LOL - you must have been really bored today if you were researching which swims faster, humans or sperm! :) Anyway, thanks again for the info!

Thanks Anne,

I have been researching for that same info about the lenght of time it takes for the sperm to join the egg and how fast they swim!!!

In the beginning of January 2003 I did have spotting after each BD. I did go crazy until I saw my Dr. She said it was an irritation to the cervix. My PAP smear was normal.

Thanks for the great info!!!

Do you know anything about ovulation bleeding? ( how long it is suppose to last and what causes the bleeding- the sloughing of the endometrium or the rupture of the follicle?) And does ovulation bleeding the same as ovulation spotting?

I have been looking for these answers for a long time but unsuccessful

Thanks,
