Allergy meds safe while ttc/pg?
| Mon, 09-29-2003 - 4:03pm |
I am dying here ladies...nasty sinus and allergy problems. When I asked my doctor about safe medicines to take while pg he said Allegra was fine. I know Allegra is Pregnancy Category C, though, but it doesn't surprise me that my doctor said it was ok because he is more relaxed about medicines/caffeine and that sort of thing than I am comfortable.
So, my question is, other than plain sudafed, is there any allergy medicines that you feel are safe and feel comfortable suggesting to me? I am prone to sinus infections so when I get allergy problems I need to get them under control or I'll end up on antibiotics for weeks and if I did get pg, with the lowered immune system, I'd surely be sick as a dog the firs trimester (I was sick a lot with colds/sinus infections when pg with my dd).
Thanks for any advice!

Wendy-
I have terrible allergies.
Thanks for your response. I'll ask my doctor if I can switch to Zyrtec (I have some free samples, but they are for Zyrtec D which has tons of sudafed in it which I don't think sounds too safe to take that much, but I'm no doctor).
I'm very sorry for your loss and I hope that you get your BFP very soon! {{{HUG}}}
One thing I remembered is that when I was pg with my dd, my allergies and sinuses were horrible during the first trimester. However, my allergies were A LOT better for the rest of my pg and stayed better for nearly a year after giving birth. I don't know why that happened. It could have been the hormones, it could have been the move to a new house (less mold and dust).
That's it!!! Eureka! I'll go home tonight and tell dh that if he wants this potential child to live in a non-toxic, allergy medicine-free womb then he'd better get busy finding us a new house! LOL!
