I took my temp this morning. I wanted to see if it gave me the same temp each time, but it didn't. I took it 5 times, they all varied. 97.0, 97.3, 97.1, 97.7, 97.5. I know I should probably just use the 1st one, but if I'm getting different results am I really getting an accurate temp.

You're right; I'd just go with the first one. As for whether you're getting an accurate temp, my guess is that it is good enough. Your temp changes when you take it several times in succession due to little fluctuations caused by things like opening and closing your mouth, moving around, starting the thermometer at different temperatures, etc. This is my own personal opinion formed by 13 mos. of charting, reading about BBTs, speaking with my doctor about it, and most of all, being a member of this board for 9 mos., so please just take it at that. Whether your temp is 97.0 today or 97.5 today isn't really that important. BBT-ing isn't an exact science. What's far more important is the overall pattern. Do you have at least 11-12 days of higher temps at the end of your cycle? Is there an overall pattern of lower temps at the beginning and higher ones at the end? etc. I know from using a CPE fertility monitor that temps do not necessarily rise ON the day you O (I also saw Tara post this same info during the cycle that she had an U/S to determine when she O'd and her O day by U/S was not reflected by her temps). However, the day you O should be very close to the temp rise. That was a really long way to just say that I'd bet that your thermometer is working fine, so just go with that first temp and don't forget to BD before, during, and after that temp rise to make sure you cover all your bases! GL and I'm hoping that this cycle is all yours!
