Another UTI question

I got really good answers yesterday regarding UTI during pregnancy. Thanks again.

How about taking those AZO kind of pills during pregnancy? Again, I might be jumping the gun here, but I could be pregnant and am worried now that I took AZO yesterday. The pain was so bad I just had to take it. I called my OB-GYN today, but she's with the patient and I am waiting for her call back.

I didn't know that AZO kinds are actually bladder anesthesia until I did some research. For those of you who had UTI during pregnancy, was it OK to take this kind of pills? It seems like antibiotics are still prescribed for pregnant women, but not sure about these type of drug (called Phenazopyridine Hydrochloride).

Again, I might NOT be pregnant, but I'm just being extra cautious.

Thanks so much in advance.

Hi. I dont know about the safety of azo but it will not treat your infection. I had UTIs a couple times when I was preg. ( I think the are common during preg) and I was put on an antibiotic called macrobid. There are antibiotics you can take during pregnancy, call your doctor. You dont want to let an infection linger if you are preg- if it progresses it could be dangerous to your pregnancy. Drink lots of water! Hope you feel better soon. HTH.
