Anyone have a Luteal Phase Defect

I charted and used OPKs this month and determined (as I suspected) that my Luteal Phase is only 9 days. I have already had a chemical pg so I know that this is an issue for me although the doctor will not see me until I have two months of charts. Which makes no sense as they say the LP does not change for a woman each cycle. So this cycle will be 9days and I will go another cycle without being able to get pg.

Does anyone else have a LP defect and if so, what is the treatment?

TIA

Jen,

I don't have LPD, but here is an article about diagnosis and treatment:

The most common treatment for LPD will be progesterone suppositories to attempt to lengthen the luteal phase. The vitamin B6 can also possibly help.

Good luck to you!

Hi Jen, so far I have been charting 2 months. and so far I have had 2 10 day lps. so I did some research today. I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but what i have found out today is to take vitamine B6. It is supose to lengthen your lp. you take 50 to 63 mg a day. It is safe to take in pregnancy too. I have heard alot of good things about it, alot of people have tried it and it worked for them. I think it is in prenatal vitamins too. If you decide to take it you should take a B vitamin complex. I also hear that B12 can help w/ dh sperm. Also there is wild yam but it contains estrogin and also if you take it before ovulation it can prevent O. I hear good things about progesterone creams too. They have a few meds over the counter made just for concieving, www.fertilityblend.com also here is a b6 site www.fertilitydays.com/preconception/info/fer0014.html

there is also something called vitex (chasteberry tree)

I hope I could help a little, sorry so long, Good luck!!!!!!

Hi, Jen. I have a LP defect. 2 cycles ago I took 200mg of B6 daily. It lenthened my 8 day LP to 13 days. Because it's possible to take too much B6, I decreased the dosage to 100mg per day last cycle. I ended up with an 8 day LP again. Needless to say, I'm trying 200mg again this cycle and hoping it wasn't a fluke. I've also made an appointment with my doc. I have 6 charts to show her, so I'm hoping to get some help (unless I'm lucky enough to conceive this month.)

Good luck!

DOn't be upset with your doc for making you wait two cycles. The reason they do that is because a majority of women have occasional 'bad" cycles (anovulatory or short LP, etc) So they just want to make sure that the first month wasn't a fluke. What you do this month is up to you. If you want to try home remedies, thats fine, but if they work somewhat, your doc may not see you next month. So if you would rather have doctor intervention and supervision, don't do anything until you see the doc. (except be taking a prenatal or multivitamin) I did notice that the prenatals prescribed by my doc have 20 mg or B6, so that could help a little, regular multivitamin only has 2 mg.

Hope this helps.
