Does low progesterone happen before a miscarriage, or as a result of a miscarriage? Is it a chronic thing that will happen every time, or is it a one time thing?

I've read about women needing progesterone supplements, or they need Clomid, to get pregnant. I got pregnant, just couldn't keep the pregnancy going, so I don't think something like Clomid is necessary.

For those of you that have taken supplements, which form have you taken and did it help?

Sorry, I'm a bit of a mess right now, looking for answers.

Bankerswife- did you have a short LP or any other signs of low progesterone? Besides the bloodwork? I'm thinking I might get my bloodwork done to test it. I have a good bit of the signs, according to Google, lol. Just wondering. My OB office won't do any testing until March, my year mark. So I may have my Dr office I work for (urgent care) to order it for me .. sorry you are having to go through all of this! :(

Thanks. I don't think I have a chronic condition because I know I ovulate every month. I'm pretty sure I was ovulating even on the pill. I'll be switched OB offices next time, this experience has sucked. I don't think a new OB will do testing until the next confirmed pregnancy.

When my midwife prescribed Prometrium for me on Monday, the receptionist called and told me to take it until I was 11 week along. So I needed about a month's supply. But, the prescription was for a 4 month supply. I'm supposed to go off it after the confirmation u/s next week, so I'll still have over 100 days worth, and they're not giving me any answers about when to take it. I'll probably do a little more internet research and then start taking it monthly between ovulation and testing. I hate to just wing things, I wish my midwife would give me her input, but for now that's all I can do. From what I can tell, the research is really mixed about if the supplements help at all, but it can't hurt.

I *think* if you have low progesterone, it would be pre-existing before the pregnancy. A lot of the time it's evident with short lp's or spotting pre-af.

When I was ttc the twins, they checked my progesterone and said it was normal, but I think it was a bit low because they went ahead and prescribed me pills (can't remember the name). I continued to ttc but the month I finally did, I had quit taking them. I held the pregnancy fine. Hope this helps.
