baby fitting into lifestyle?

Hey everyone. I was wondering how you guys were planning to juggle your babies into your lives. By the time I *hope* to be delivering the baby (that I hope to become pg with soon, lol) I will have three graduate classes left and a thesis which can be done over two semesters (but the second semester I also hope to be teaching.) Anyway, it sounds like a lot to me, but I'm all for it, and I was just wondering if any of you had any similar experiences.
The only thing that worries me is from the time that I deliver until the time that I start summer classes... it might not be much time! I'd just take more during my pregnancy, but I'll already be taking quite a load as well as working parttime. The busy schedule doesn't really bother me, I just need to figure how I will handle it.

My DH is a 2nd year at U of Chicago's MBA program so he has 9 months left! I'm hoping that we get PG soon and the baby arrives either right before school is over or right after. Since we'll be leaving Chicago (not many mutual fund companies around) I'll be able to quit my job and spend at least the first 6 months home with the baby. After that, I'll see what will be best for us as a family. I think I'll end up staying at home, but I can't make that decision right now.
As for a baby fitting into our social life, well, we really don't have much of one. A big night out is dinner and a movie. I'm 30 and he's 33, so we had a lot of fun in college and now we're done. We've traveled and had our "selfish" time, so the baby will fit right in!
Good Luck!

If I get a BFP this cycle then I will have my hands full. I am taking 5 classes for fall and spring semesters at my community college. The baby would be born during the summer, right before spring finals, and then I would have a few months off to take care of some things. I hope it happens this time because I could really use a few months to get the BF thing down before I start classes at UAB (University of Alabama at Bham) next fall. I have a great support system of in-laws that will be more then happy to baby sit during the day. It could be in interesting summer if things go my way.

My friend M was a wonder-woman... she had a courseload of two classes per week in the fall semester 2001 while pregnant. Her due date wasn't until Feb 1... so she still enrolled in one full-semester class for the spring semester. She showed up for the first week of class, missed the second week of class while she was in the hospital (she was in labor!), and was right back in class the week later. She then loaded up a couple additional classes in the 2nd half of the semester, since she was still on maternity leave. I guess she was lucky - she has a VERY supportive DH, she was VERY motivated to get done, and her new baby was a real sleeper.
My friend D also was pregnant while in grad school... she took 2.5 classes in her early pregnancy, but only scheduled one first-quarter class the semester she was due (spring 03), then took the rest of the semester off to have her baby. She's back at it in summer school - 1 class this summer, and two in the fall. Again - she's got a VERY supportive DH.
I think the real key is a supportive DH - supportive of you, wanting to take care of the baby, and very in key with your grad school and ambitions. My friends made it work, so you can too!
Good luck!

I know I will have some major schedule adjusting to do when I have a baby. I am an attorney and I routinely work very long hours--and because I deal with litigation, the hours are often erratic and sometimes involve travel. I also sit on the board of a not-for-profit organization and hold officer positions in other philanthropic organizations. So it will be a big shift. DH recognizes this as well and we have talked about it at length. We have decided that we are ready and we'll figure it out as we go. He is SOOOOO supportive. Luckily, my firm has great benfits, so I should get almost 3 months paid leave. We think I can probably go in a bit late each day when the little one goes to day care and that DH can plan on getting in early and leaving early to do the pick up. Ideally, I would like a nanny--because that would allow us more flexibility, but that can be really expensive (although it might actually be cost effective if we have a second child relatively soon thereafter). I may have the ability to go flex time or part time. That may or may not tank my career at my firm. And honestly, that may not really matter to me at that point--I understand priorities shift after you have kids. In sum, Camille, I don't know what we're going to do. There will be a big learning curve for DH and I (neither one of us has ever changed a diaper!). But, we're in it together and we're committed to doing our best.

I will be giving birth in April '04...yippee! It will be my second semester of a part-time graduate school program and will be right before finals. I will also be working full time until I deliver. My sister completed Harvard Medical School while pregant and giving birth and just gave birth to her second while in a specialty school program. It's certainly do-able. You just have to be determined and never quit. As I see it, I'd rather be super busy during pregnancy and at birth than while the children are growing up...I'd rather enjoy them during those years and have all my schooling behind me! It certainly won't be easy, but it will be well worth my time and effort. As other ladies have said, you must have a DH that is VERY supportive to be able to do all this!
Best of luck to all you busy ladies out there!
Cheers!

I'm a homebody, I love cooking, reading, watching movies, surfing the internet etc... I'm sure the baby coming (soon I hope) will get me out and about more. I love museums, science centers, plays etc.. but haven't been out as much.
My DH works 45 minutes away from our home, he will have the easiest time adjusting I'm sure.
My mom is looking forward to our getting pg. I can just bring the baby to work and her grandma will watch her as well :)
I have 1.5 years to go to get my nursing degree. I'll be putting it on hold until the baby is about 6 months old.
