BBT - what happens before AF?

You all are probably sick of me, but I am starting to track BBT this month. I did not start at the beginning of my cycle, because, well, this cycle is rather weird. I'm on day 39 since my last normal AF and I am not PG. I am analyzing my BBT chart to try to guage where I am in my cycle. I started the chart when my normal AF "Should" have started.

Currently I am within limits of the first phase before O. It's a little jagged, but it's still within limits. I am hoping this means I am still in the first phase and haven't Oed yet and it will come soon.

My question now is what happens to mt BBT upon the arrival of AF? Does it drop suddenly? Is it gradual? Does it drop before AF starts? After? After it's finished?

And while I'm on the subject, what if I don't O? Will my temps just stay down?

Thanks

Sharon

Most women get a temp drop on the day before or day of AF's arrival. Then your temp may continue to fall a little during AF as the progesterone leaves your system.

If you don't O this cycle, you will either see your temps stay in the same range they are currently in, or you could see erratic temp spikes without any change in your overall trend. In an ovulatory cycle, there is a range of lows before O, and a range of highs after O. Your temps pre-O stay under the "coverline," while your temps after O stay above it. In my attempts at charting when I was anovulatory, my temps were just all over the place.

For a great resource in all this charting business, I highly recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. It was worth every penny!

Good luck to you!
