Borderline thyroid?
| Thu, 07-31-2003 - 2:51pm |
Hi there, I am new to the board! I just found from the doctor that my thyroid levels are borderline high. I am two weeks late, but not pregnant (have been trying for the last 4 months). This is the first time I have such an unpredictable cycle (off the pill for almost a year). I am very confused and concerned!
Anybody else out there with same symptoms? If somebody can share experience or offer advice, I would greatly appreciate!

Welcome to the board! I don't really have an answer for you, but I've got a different but related situation. Over the years, I have had a few checkups which have turned up borderline low thryoid, but the level never dropped to the point where I needed medical intervention. Last February, I went in for another physical and told my dr that I was going to TTC, and she checked my thyroid level again and didn't seem to think there was anything for me to worry about. I just got a BFP this week and, in talks with potential prenatal caregivers, have mentioned the borderline thyroid, and no one has seemed particularly concerned because I never had to receive treatment for it in the past. They also said a woman's thyroid changes in pg anyway and that if I was concerned, I could get a thyroid test when I started having prenatal visits.
Sorry this is so long and it doesn't really answer your question. I think the point I'm trying to make is to talk to your dr before TTC and after conception. I don't know if it's the same for high thyroid, but in my particular case, it seems that it probably won't be an issue...knock on wood.
Good luck!

I can't help you with your question, but I have the same one. I was told by my Dr. this week that my thyroid number was a little high. She wasn't concerned, she thinks it may be a fluke and wants me to have it rechecked next month. I was wondering if high thyroid decreases your chances of conception. She knows I am TTC and didn't say anything about it affecting me. I do have irregular cycles, but not sure if it is because of thyroid or not, they seem to be regulating.
Anyway, hope we both get answers and a BFP in spite of the thyroid #'s.
