Called the Dr. and.....

Well I went ahead and called my doctor just to get some reassurance and to ask a few questions. I actually spoke with his nurse and she was great, very understanding and let me ramble on and on. She said that with the BFN this morning and being on cd43 they want to prescribe some Provera to kick start my cycle. She told me that DH and I should keep BD'ing until AF comes because I may ovulate on the Provera and could conceive while taking it. But if not then AF will come while I'm taking the medication or a week after I finish. I guess this means I am truly coming down with a cold/flu since I'm still feeling kinda yucky. This will be the first time in my life that I'll be happy to see AF.

Does anyone have any personal experience with Provera that they can share just so I know what to expect?

The only thing I can think of is to make sure you get a Blood Test before you do it. That is from someone elses post a few weeks back, she had same sit, did the provera and ended up with a M/C she was actually PG, I can't remember the details, but I would get a Blood test before bringing on AF just to "make sure". :D good luck

You know that's something that I had thought about. Even though I've been getting BFNs I've also been feeling like I might have some pg symptoms. I don't know if I've just been imagining some of them or not. I thought maybe the doc's office would have me come in for a blood test before prescribing the Provera but she didn't mention it. I might pop in to the Patient First tonight and have one done just for peace of mind.

Thanks!

hi! I am in the same situation. I just got back from the doctor's office. I am on cd#39 and had them do a pregnancy test....it came back negative. The doctor did an internal and said that my ovaries and uterus are normal. I am supposed to wait two weeks and if I do not get my period, I have to go back and get a perscription. He never mentioned a blood test.

Anyone else have any advice to lend? If I got a BFN this morning is it still a good idea to have the blood test?

HI Ashley, I was chatting with someone in the TTC chat room earlier who used to be a lab technician. She suggested a blood test since it is much more precise. Good luck and let me know how it goes. :) Alicia

I had to take provera after my first m/c... I was going on 8 weeks with AF starting on its own. Iof course had a blood test first to make sure I wasn't pg. But the provera was prescibed for 10 days - I think I took it for 5 and AF started... so once you rule out PG then go ahead and take it and get back on track

Good Luck to you ;-)

Thanks for all of the advice ladies! I'm going to see the doctor today for a blood test and if that comes out negative I'll start the Provera and see if I can get cycle #2 on its way.

Just wanted to also let you know... if you happen to conceive while on Provera, or shortly before the Provera, IT'S OKAY. Provera is simply a form of progesterone. A lot of women - those with luteal phase problems - take Provera in the 2 weeks after ovulation, to try to build a better uterine lining and "keep it" during the LP. Some women even have to take the Provera until about week 12 of pregnancy; Provera actually helps these women avoid miscarriage.

Good luck to you!

Ashley,

Please keep me posted on how things are going for you, since I think we are in the same boat.

Good luck :) Alicia
