Can Diet Soda Cause Infertility?

My neighbor just told me that drinking diet soda can cause temporary(at least) infertility. She said once she stopped drinking diet soda it took her 3-4 mo to conceive her dd. I am on month 2 and stopped diet soda about 1.5 weeks ago, allowing myself 1-2 regular sodas per day with water otherwise. Does it take long for the diet soda to leave your system or what? Really worried about this. Thanks.

Diet soda should be avoided, as it contains aspartame. Aspartame is an endocrine disrupting drug, stimulates prolactin and causes infertility in the woman.

Caffeine should also be limited, especially if you're having trouble conceiving, or while undergoing IVF. Caffeine constricts blood vessels, which reduces blood flow to the uterus and prevents eggs from attaching to the uterine wall.

Thank you. Is the infertility temporary, meaning once I've stopped using it, and I have, that my fertility will return to normal? My cycles are every 28 days and regular like clockwork and I do ovulate. Tried clomid with no success.

You can google everything as I do not want to scare you with what I pull offline.

I would just stop drinking or eating ANYTHING that has it in it.

I don't want to be the one to tell you that drinking diet soda probably isn't a cause for infertility, but I had no problems conceiving my first two children (although I am having issues with miscarriage this time around) and I have been drinking diet soda for years prior to having children. I don't personally think it could be a cause. I think the key is moderation with anything that raises possible concerns, though. If you feel like it could help, by all means it doesn't hurt anything to try to cut it out of your diet, or a least limit it. I have been using Truvia with my coffee lately and I think the taste is very similar to aspartame--I'm not a fan of Splenda at all. There are also diet sodas out there that use Splenda, if you don't mind it. I wish you tons of luck and baby dust!

It causes issues with miscarriage too in some of the studies I have read.
