Can Diet Soda Cause Infertility?
| Fri, 02-13-2009 - 4:05pm |
My neighbor just told me that drinking diet soda can cause temporary(at least) infertility. She said once she stopped drinking diet soda it took her 3-4 mo to conceive her dd. I am on month 2 and stopped diet soda about 1.5 weeks ago, allowing myself 1-2 regular sodas per day with water otherwise. Does it take long for the diet soda to leave your system or what? Really worried about this. Thanks.

I'm really glad you shared this. For me, for a very long time, I've balked at theories about what to eat or what not to eat to increase your chances of conception. My biggest question was always: Well, what about crack whore alcoholics?! LOL Seriously? You're telling me they can do it and I cant?
I am a smoker and have cut back dramatically in the past year or so. Naturally it's a conversation that comes up at every single dr visit, and came up yesterday while I was talking to my fertility dr. Ofcourse I have no plans of smoking through a pregnancy, and I know it's terrible for your health whether

Not to further fan any flames ;)...but having a DH who is a biologist, as well as having plenty of experience in the scientific method in my own education, I tend to be VERY skeptical of this sort of information when it doesn't cite an actual scientific article. Coincidentally, I haven't found much of anything to do with the "dangers" of aspartame that can be supported by peer-reviewed scientific literature. You can say whatever in the world you want and let it spread like wildfire over the internet, and unfortunately a vast majority of people will believe it no matter how you obtained that information, kwim?
Because there is so little VALID information out there on aspartame (and, like you mentioned, a lot of other "questionable" foods and such), it certainly doesn't hurt anything to use it in moderation, but I would be wary of what you hear about these things.
