CD42 and now my temp spiked, Help

I am really confused now. I have been taking my bbt(sorry I don't have chart to show, been doing it on paper) and this whole cycle my temps have not gone above 97.3 and have dropped two times to 96.7. Mostly during this cycle my temp. has been 97.0 to 97.2 the whole time. Now this morning my temp. was 97.9. I don't know if this means anything or not, this charting thing is confusing and I just heard about FF and they won't let me chart because I tried to do it 2 weeks into this cycle. I did hpt on friday and it was clearly negative. On sunday my neice brought me a Hcg test from the health department where she works and it takes five minutes for it to complete. It gave me the faintest line in five minutes, could see it better if you held it to light. So I am still in the dark, but will test again in a few days. I don't even know when I ovulated or if I did because the way my chart doesn't show mid cycle spike, it makes me wonder if I did "O". So now at the late in the cycle my temp goes up higher then ever in the whole cycle. I just don't understand this charting thing. I guess at this point I just want to know if I should celebrate or wait for AF to show and try again the next cycle. Sorry I just needed to vent, a little fruastrated. Thanks for listening.

This is my first cycle of charting, but from what I have learned, the first spike usually means you ovulated. Is is possible that you ovulated late this cycle? How long are you cycles usually?
I know that if they stay high for at least 3 days in a row, then FF usually says you ovulated. If you have long cycles, you may have just ovulated.
It is really hard to get a good reading when you start charting in the middle of your cycle!
Keep BDing - and good luck!!!
