I'm a brand new charter! I know temps take a dip when AF is very near, but what do temps do around ovulation?? Do they indicate the best time to BD?

Thanks ladies!

Hi Amie,

I am by no means an expert (since I am still TTC#1), but I had a lot of help from www.fertilityfriend.com. You can enter your temps and other info there and the website gives you day and cycle specific information and help. I do know that your temp typically dips the day before O, and rises a lot the day of O. You can tell if you have O'd because the temps stay high for a few days (for me almost until AF tracks me down).

Good Luck, and I hope this helps.

They really don't tell the best time to bd- it does give you a history of when to typically expect "o" from previous cycles so you have a better idea. It mainly tells you that you HAVE "o"d (after the fact) and that way you can tell how long your LP is and when to expect AF's arrival(or absence). It is simply a good tool for becoming familiar with your cycles- make sure you're "o"ing and that your lp is long enough.

HTH!

For predictive purposes, you should rely more closely on observing your CM.

BBT gives an excellent retrospective - it shows you when ovulation has occurred, past tense - but is not reliable for ovulation prediction. Some, but not all, women will get a slight temp dip in the day before ovulation... but again, this only happens to some women some cycles.
