OK - I've got questions and hopefully someone has the answers!

I just got rx'd Clomid and I'm going to pick it up on my way home tonight...

1. What does Clomid actually do?

2. What should I expect to see in my chart?

3. Can you have multiple bebe's because of clomid?

4. Am I freaking out or what???!!!!

TIA for the answers, the nurse is spose to call me back to answer my questions but I'm afraid I won't be able to last that long!

SUNNY :)

Hi Sunny,

This is my first cycle on clomid, just finished it cd 4-8. The clomid is "suppose" to force O if you cannot O on your own. I am Oing on my own but only every other month or so and I have a really long cycle each month (34-38 days) so it is suppose to ensure O and help to shorten my cycles (maybe it can, not always.) The only way to actually confirm O is by temping (you'll get the temp hike after O) and/or get a 7dpo progesterone blood test, which is what I am going to do each month to make sure the clomid is doing it's job. I'll try and answer some more of your q's below:

Let's see, I took mine every night (before bed) so eliminates side effects (it did)

I took 100mg (50mg is usually the starting dose, I opted for the higher dosage and doc approved it)

Surprisingly enough, clomid is said to make your temps jump up slightly more then without it but my temps seemed a bit lower to me when I took it for the five days, everyone's different though. My last pill was almost a week ago and my temps are just now starting to go up...strange. Also, girls have reported dried cm so I will use pre-seed this month but not everyone looses good cm with clomid, some never even see a change. Right now I seem fine and don't notice it being drier than normal.

The multiple pg's you asked about, it's only 7-10% chance you'll get more than one baby. With everyone taking it on this board, you'll see very few who have had twins with it. I want twins badly but I doubt it will happen, cuz I want it so bad...lol

You're NOT freaking out, I had all those same q's and then some and still do. I am taking 3 cycles of the clomid so hopefully within these 3 I can get pg! Good luck and post to let me know how you're doing. I also post and read on the Clomid board which I found a TON of info on that board with it.

Hey, you are definatly not freaking out. I think it is natural to wonder about what you are taking and how it will affect you...

What does Clomid do? Basically, it makes you ovulate....

Here's how: Clomid works by suppressing the amount of naturally circulating estrogen and "tricks" the pituitary into producing more follicular stimulating hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing hormone (LH). These natural gonadotropic hormones (FSH and LH) then stimulate the ovaries to ripen a follicle and to extrude an ovum (egg) AKA: ovulation.

You should expect to O approximately 5 to 8 days after you take your last pill.

Taking them at night may help with the side effects.

Chance of multilples only increases about 5-10% with Clomid, which compared to most

fertility meds is really low.

Hope this helps....Good Luck

Sunny -

Welcome to the wonderful world of Clomid! You might also stop by the Clomid/Ovulation Induction board to say hi; it's not as busy a board as this TTC board, so sometimes it's easier to keep track of all your messages over there:

http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-ppclomid

Pardon any repetition I might be adding to this - I didn't have time to read all the replies to your initial message - but:

1 - Clomid just does a little "trick" to the estrogen receptors in your brain, causing a hormonal response that will result in ovulation about one week after your last pill (give or take a few days).

2 - Your chart should still follow the typical biphasic pattern you've seen in past ovulatory cycles - low range of temps pre-O, high range of temps post-O. If you get PG, you can even still show a triphasic chart.

3 - The chance of twins doubles on Clomid. So, the general population has a 3-5% of twins... Clomid users have a 6-10% chance of twins. I know five women in my personal life who have taken Clomid to get pg; none have twins.

4 - You are NOT freaking out!!! We were all there at one time or another!

Good luck to you!
