Colposcopy while ttc???

I'm so annoyed that every month SOMETHING is wrong. I had my yearly exam and found out it came back abnormal so they want to do a colposcopy. I've had that done before, so while it's no picnic, I'm not really worried about the procedure.

What worries me is will the procedure prevent me from conceiving this month? I'm on cd 13 today. I haven't ovulated yet, but my CM is increasing and I am spotting a little bit (normal for my mid-cycle). I've also been using an OPK, and it looks like my LH surge may be soon. My appointment for the colposcopy is Tuesday... mere days after I expect to O. I won't be able to BD the days before the test (I'm not sure how many I should abstain for the test) so if I don't O before then I'm out of luck..... again. But if I DO O soon, is it possible that the poking, prodding and pricking of my cervix will not interfere with anything that's going on inside??? Or is it wishful thinking?

Sharon,

I've never had anything like that done so unfortunately, I can't give you an answer. I would ask my doc if I were you. These messages move so quickly that I just wanted to ~bump~ you back up to see if anyone can help here.

Hey Sharon...just had colposcopy and biopsy two weeks ago or so. The doc told me that if I was pregnant it would be very slight poss. of m/c. They did a PG test and it was neg. so it really didn't matter. Unfortunately, I don't think you should ttc this month and here's why...do you want to be PG and then find out you have a problem that requires further invasive testing and/or procedures? Or would you rather get "healthy" and then conceive safely? It's only my opinion, but I had to make the same choice this month due to LEEP procedure for abnormal tissue and cervical bleeding.

I really hope all turns out well for you and ...in no time at all...we too will be posting BFP with safe and healthy pregnancies!

Good Luck,

Melissa

You're right. But I am so frustrated I can't stand it anymore. It's like someone's telling me I shouldn't get pregnant right now.

Sharon,

I also had a colposcopy done early this year to have an ovarian cyst removed and although they told me pregnancy would possibly NOT be affected I was happy I wasn't at that time. It is still a medical procedure with all the risks that involves and a big enough stress on your body, especially if you are pregnant and hormones are going crazy.

Also, not a good idea to BD too close to procedure date as it may effect it and the potential results.

You'll see, when all will be well with your health and tests all come out negative, you'll feel better TTC while you're 100% healthy. It will indeed be best for you and baby. I wouldn't say this about any other procedure (and TOTALLY understand you feeling like you are being told not to conceive this cycle) but when it comes to a colposcopy, I would get it done and then start TTC next cycle.

Good luck to you.
