Do you think the doctor/midwife be wrong? Here's what's going on.
The midwife called me back today with the results from my 4th hCG test, and the u/s I had today. The u/s showed an empty gestational sac. My hCG numbers were at 4628. One week ago today they were at 300. According to her I am 6 weeks and 2 days pregnant, and at that point I should be able to see a baby in the u/s.

What did the midwife say when you told her you weren't even 6 wks pregnant?

I think I was 5 to 6 weeks when we saw the yolk sack...
They didn't see a baby (aka a little shrimp looking thing) until I was about 7 weeks pregnant...
It is VERY possible that it was just too early to see a baby... I was told not to expect to see a baby or a heartbeat until 7-10 weeks... all babies grow at different rates in the beginning!
Wow, lots of questions! Here goes.
When I told the midwife that I O'd later in my cycle, not on CD 14, she said it was "possible" that everything is fine it was just too early, but that I shouldn't get my hopes up. She did concede that "if" I am in my 5th week and not my 6th that it's plausible that a fetus could not be seen yet in the u/s. But then she went right back to stating that they still feel I am 6 weeks along.
A blighted ovum occurs when a fetus implants into the uterus but ceases to grow at some point, therefor all that is left is an empty sac. She told me that, because of their findings of a
Most doctors in this type of situation would have you do a second beta in a couple days to see if its doubling properly now.
Ugh some doctors can just be a-holes! I am so frustrated for you Steph.. I would absolutely get a new ob/gyn... call your insurance, they can get you the names of high-risk docs in your area. There is something to be said about intuition, follow yours! And it sounds like you don't trust your doctor (neither would I) and I think it's extremely important to have a trusting relationship with the one whom you put your and your baby's care into...

I definitely would not consider a D&C at this point. There is no point in drawing betas becuase they go up with blighted ovums too. You need to get in for another u/s in a week or so.
i actually had a similar thing happen. I ovulated on CD19, but most Dr.s go by LMP. My first u/s was at 5w5d (though it was closer to 5 weeks if you go by o date). All we saw was a gestational sac with a little yolk sac in it (it looks like a ball within the big black sac). I went in two weeks later, at 7 weeks, and we saw it all: fetal pole with a heartbeat.
I think at this point you should see a yolk sac, but many babies are slow to start growing. I'm surprised your Dr. is pushing a D&C so much. I wouldn't even consider it until I had another one or two u/s.
Good luck!

Steph - I'm so sorry you're going thru this all.
