could it be possible?

I know this is probably a very silly question - but I have to ask. I've posted a few times on this board and you have all been wonderful with my questions. I posted a couple of weeks ago to let you know that I was going off the pill after 7 years - my husband and I got married in May of 2002 and we've decided for me to go off and just let God take over. Well, I took my last BC pill last Monday - Sept. 22nd and of course I have no clue about my cycles yet. My husband doesn't want me to chart my cycle or anything - he said last night he would just like for us to go off of them and see what happens. We want to leave it in God's hands as to when we have a child - but we are ready to pursue it. I have the Fertility book and I've been reading it to learn about my cycle just in case and I was going to just track it so I know when I ovulate, but he wants us to just make love and see what happens. But he is very excited as well. Anyway - my question is this - since I've been on the pill for 7 years, I don't know my cycle and don't know how quickly it will "bounce back" - but like I said - I went off the pill 7 days ago and we made love on Saturday. Today, I feel a little crampy in my stomach for some reason (maybe my body just doing weird things from going off the pill?) - but I was just curious - it is actually possible to get pregnant that quickly? Obviously I'm looking forward to the day we do become pregnant, but I just wondered if it was actually possible for it to happen that quickly after going off the pill - of course I could be dreaming these things up in my head. Thanks for your help! Allison

Allison,

I don't really know the technical/biological deal related to cycles and fertility coming off of BCP, but I can tell you what my experience was, and wish you the best of luck and hope that you are pregnant. I was on BCP for 10-11 years before TTC our first child, and we did the same thing you describe... after going off the pill, we conceived in the first cycle - and were quite surprised, because lots of people had told us that in general it takes your body a couple cycles after going off the pill to normalize.

We are TTC our second, and have been working on it for 13 cycles now, so it doesn't always go so quickly... I guess I don't really have an answer for you one way or the other, just wanted to let you know that it is possible to get pregnant in the first cycle off the pill. Good luck!

I think it is very individual.

With #1, I went off BCP mid-cycle (after 7 years of BCP too!), but I started charting immediately. We took steps to avoid getting pg until I had a period. Then I got pg the next cycle. I think I ovulated right away, though.

This time in ttc #2, I went off (different) BCP's midcycle again. (We are not good at planning ahead I guess! LOL!). Judging by my CM and my temp raise, I think I o'd within days of going off the pill and then AF came 2 weeks later. I am now 3rd cycle charting (5DPO), but I would say my cycles are more regular now than before I ever went on BCP's.

Anything is possible. Charting would help you have more info. BD every other day once you start seeing CM would be your best bet otherwise. Good luck to you!
