Couldn't get my HSG done :(

I have been crying all day. After driving an hour and a half and waiting almost an hour in the waiting room, things only got worse. The doctor could not get the catheter into my uterus. He tried so many different times, so many different ways, and it wasn't happening. He said my cervix and uterus were on too much of an angle? Ugh I became hysterical and confused almost instantly. He kept trying to reassure me that it didn't mean anything bad but I didn't believe him. I asked if it meant I had a tilted uterus and he said no. Well then why?! Why wouldn't the catheter go on?! He kept trying to explain my uterus was angled downward and my cervix was pointed upward, and that this is common but I was just totally beside myself! I instantly wrote myself off as defective and now feel like all the BDing and clomid and everything is a waste because... If a catheter and dye can't even get up there, sperm probably can't either.

I cried the whole way home. DB didn't even know what to say or do because I just wanted to cry and cry and cry. The doc said he was gonna call my OB/GYN, maybe I should call him tomorrow and see what his insight is on the situation? I feel so confused, angry, and upset right now I don't even know what to say or do I just feel now like there is really something wrong with me. I know I feel like I've been complaining a lot but this has just been a terrible week. I really need some support and answers. :(

And of course now I decided to pay a visit to Dr. Google and he says I might have something called cervical stenosis which sounds very scary and disheartening. God why am I not meant to have children???

(((hugs!!))) I'm so very sorry you had to go through all of this :( How absolutely frustrating & disheartening for you. Definitely call your dr tomorrow & see what he has to say. I'm wondering since the cervix moves around so much during our cycle if you would have better luck if it was higher or lower? I don't know -just reaching for straws. Have you ever checked your cervical position? Maybe a different dr will have better luck :)

(((more hugs!!))) pretty sure you need them!

So sorry Lex that you had to deal with this today :(. And that you had to drive that far for such a disappointing appointment. I am with everyone else, def. call your regular OBGYN Dr. and talk to them about it. I am sure they would have told you during your check-ups if there was any concern about anything before or if you had any diagnosable problem. ((((((HUGS)))))) for you!

Good point Crickett. Lex, has anything ever been said during a pap test? You'd think if there was an anatomical issue, it would be evident during a pap?

Thank you ladies so much. I don't know what I'd do without you!

My regular OB/GYN has never said anything to me about abnormalities. And the doc who *attempted* to perform my HSG did say that the day it is done sometimes does make or break the test. So I am hoping that my cervix was just being a pain and I just need to stay away from Dr. Google for the rest of the month!!!

I mean, if blood comes out, sperm has to get in, right? Right.

Lex,
I had the same problem! I did the HSG back before I got preggers with the twins. I went in and it took 45 minutes to get it in! He had a hard time getting through the cervux and into the uterus! I mean this dr poked and prodded 100 times. He finally got it in and it was a relief, but man! I didn't mention it before because I didn't want to scare you. But it pinched a lot every time he tried. I still had unexplained infertility and for a long time after that I assumed what you did which was if he can't get the tiny cathedar in, then sperm can't either. I did get pregnant finally with IUI and clomid. It was my second IUI, and I was on 150mg of clomid, sixth month. But when I did both IUI, it was much easier to get cathedar into my uterus. I mean it pinched for a second, but only took a couple minutes vs 45....and MUCH less painful! So now I think it had more to do with my cervix was in a weird position when I had HSG done....where as it was open and in a much better position when I had IUI. Don't lose hope!!!

Ugh, I am so sorry--what a terrible day. I am supposed to get the hsg done soon as well, well, at least that what's my current obgyn wanted to do but I don't like her so I'm going straight to the RE, but I'm sure thats the next step. I would be so upset too if I had to drive all that way and be in pain, all just to leave confused. It makes perfect sense that your cervix was probably not in a good position today, so try not to worry. Hang in there, you are going to get the answers you need, it just sucks it takes so long to get them and so much effort (and sometimes literal pain!) to get there. HUGS
