December News!

Hi ladies. I just joined the board a month or so ago when I finally hit my lowest, most desperate place emotionally. The boards lifted my spirits, made me laugh and gave me the strength to keep going. . . and still do.

With that said, I wanted to share my story with you guys - literally MIRACLES do happen.

After my 3rd IUI in October I developed a cyst in my left ovary which precluded any meds (and another IUI attempt) for November. Honestly, I became more concerned about this new growth than "losing" a cycle. Anyway, I was told the day I learned about the cyst to go home, relax, and to come back on my next CD3 - if I was to have one. Okay, at the time I am thinking that the cyst, depending on its size, can give off an amount of estrogen which can preclude pregnancy because of signals to the pituitary, I think . . . all this stuff is still new to me. Basically I figured my chances of pregnancy were EVEN LOWER this month with the cyst and with no meds. . . I consistently went to acupuncture twice a week in hopes of at least bringing the cyst down.

The plot thickens . . . My husband and I, per usual, attempted to conceive on our own while having fun. . . we were able to do so CD 3-7 about 4-6 times. I know this may be TMI, but read on. CD6 or so he becomes unable to get an erection which lasts until day 15 - surely we missed ovulation! I thought I typically ovulated CD10-13. We've never had this physical issue arise in the nearly 8 years we've been together. I guess this stress can really take a toll on our men too! Anyway, he felt horrible, but I felt horrible for him, plus I had my cyst so I just told myself that November was a wash. I would heal and we would just chill out with the holidays and all the stress. . . and resume in December.

With no "friend" visiting and extremely sore and engorged breasts, I decided to take a pregnancy test on CD 32 (December 1st). Much to my astonishment it read PREGNANT. The process has taught me, with its ups and downs, to stay focused and to be as unemotional and rational as possible. My last trigger shot was 46 days prior to the test, so I knew this wasn't the HCG talking. I took another on December 2 - PREGNANT. I go in to the doctors on the 3rd - PREGNANT, take a second test on the 4th to check hormones, etc. and levels are excellent. I AM IN SHOCK! While DH and I were in unexplained category, I still feel like it's too early to get excited, but this sure feels like a miracle - I am hopeful and optimistic but also very realistic. Next step is to go in for my 1st ultrasound on December 15th. I'm more scared than happy because I want to STAY pregnant.

I know everyone is at different stages and levels of their efforts, but I just wanted someone(s) to tell because it's far too early to tell friends and family and no one really understands the ups and down like you guys. Thanks for listening.

P.S. I guess what I really wanted to share with you is that you may think you know when you're ovulating, so begin trying earlier in cycle than maybe you normally would. My sister also said she had a funky ovul schedule- like around CD6. Lastly, when you think something can't happen and you're quite sure of it like I was, you're reminded that this is really out of your hands. It's kind of scary actually. People say chill out and relax, but I truly do think that I let go of the idea of getting pregnant in November and it happened. I don't know how to tell you to do that though - I am sure many have already tried. Just know that when perhaps a wrench is thrown in the plans or you're thrown a curve ball. . . it just may be the month.

Hugs!

Suzanne
