Did I even figure my average right? :o

I am so confused ladies! I need your guidance! This is my dh and my first cycle TTC #1 so I am way in the dark here!

Today I suddenly realized that the date I was using as my the first day of my last period was wrong. Don't ask me why! I had written it down right and told the doctor the right one, but some how when ever I counted how many more days until testing I was using one 10 days later!

Well that means day 29 (the day my DR told me to test) was today! You can imagine my surprise since I thought it was NEXT week! So I went out and bought a HPT and got all psyched to tell my hubby that we are going to test tomorrow AM.

But now as I look over my log of period stops and starts I am afraid the average cycle length I gave my DR (which both she and I used to figure out my fertile time, etc.) might have been figured wrong. I counted the days from when my last period stopped to when my next period started...which averages 27 days. But of course the days I am having AF is not counted in those days. When I counted those in and averaged it out it is more like 32-33 days! Which of course mean we totally missed the fertile time.

I am so upset I could cry. I am even wondering if we should try to test tomorrow because I think the reason my DR said 29 days is because I said 27 days.

Sorry for the long post but I hoped with more info you guys could help...though I guess the question is clear...do you figure the average days of cycles from stop to start or start to start?

Thank you for your help!

Cycles are counted from start to stop. That is, Day 1 = the first day of full red flow. The last day of your cycle is the last day before the next full red flow. (That day of full red flow is Day 1 of the next cycle.)

All I can say for you right now is: relax. This is your first cycle TTC, and you're still new to the "game." I think all of us out here took some time to figure out this business of cycle days and fertile times. Everything happens in due time - when it's your "time" to get pg, it WILL happen for you and your DH. In the meantime, I'd recommend waiting at about 4-7 days before you try an HPT... the new "early" tests certainly allow you to test up to 4 days before a missed AF, but they are very unreliable at that timeframe and give a lot of false negatives. I've taken many an early HPT in my time, and each and every one is a heartbreak. The longer you can stand to wait, the better.

For your future cycles, and to get the best possible idea of your fertile times, you may want to start charting your basal body temp and your cervical fluid. I know, when I was in your shoes at C1, I thought - "that sounds like a lot of work." But I assure you, not only is it not a lot of work, it also takes a LOT of the guesswork and confusion out of targeting your fertile time... and it's much more accurate than merely trying to count days. If you decide this is the route you want to go, I'd recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler, and the website www.fertilityfriend.com.

Good luck to you!

Thank you for your reply. I know yesterday there we so many posts I was glad to to get a response!

I did go out and borrow that book everyone talks about fromt he library. It seems very helpful.

I think my husband and I have to stop focuing on a certain time of the month and get on more of a cycle ourselves!

Thanks again,

Sylvia
