Diet and sperm health....when?

So, my husband isn't the healthiest eater.........He rarely eats vegetables (except like potatoes) and fruits. He's at a normal weight, just likes his hamburgers, tacos, steaks, etc. Anyways, we are going to start TTC #1 tomorrow, I am on CD5 and usually ovulate on CD17. I have read a lot about diet and sperm health. My question is, do you think if I put DH on a really healthy diet would it affect his sperm in a positve way now, or do you think since it takes like 70-something days or so for sperm to mature, that he would have had to eaten these 'healthy foods' for over 2 months to get 'healthier' sperm?

Well my DH's diet sounds A LOT like yours, and we had NO problem conceiving our daughter. So while it certainly can't hurt to have him start eating healthier, I don't think it will be the end of the world in terms of getting pregnant :-)

I agree with the PP. My DH's diet stinks and we conceived DS just fine. It would be great if he's willing to eat better, just in general, not just TTC. Try to relax, get off Google, and enjoy the ride.

Thanks ladies.........I really do need to get off google, I'm driving myself crazy worrying about things. DH teases that he's going to disconnect the internet because I'm driving him crazy. HAHA. :smileyvery-happy:

Good luck staying away from google! Just wait til you hit the 2ww -you'll be googling symptoms like crazy ;)

I'd totally *try* & gradually improve dh's diet. Don't go too crazy or he'll just think you've gone ttc nutso! At the very least, make him take a multi-vitamin

LOL. I made me and him a 'fertility smoothie' to share last night (which was delicious btw. lol) and I put blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and yogurt and a little bit of Splenda and fat free milk

It does take a couple of months to see any benefits in sperm, but it doesn't hurt to get him to start making those changes now. I ditto the suggestion to get him to take a daily multi-vitamin, you might also want to start him on Omegas for heart health. Even if it probably won't impact your TTC efforts, maybe telling him that you want him around to raise the babies you make might convince him to make some changes ;)

I would NOT worry at this point... maybe just point out what you've learned to DH and (gently) encourage that he eat a few more veggies. You could also get him to take a daily vitamin - my DH loves the gummy ones made for adults. Anyway, if you are just beginning to TTC, I would not worry about it for now. Back-burner that worry and revisit if you are TTC for close to a year with no luck. As far as if he changed his diet right now, I honestly don't know how quickly it would impact the sperm.

That is so funny.....the gummy "vitacraves" are the ONLY vitamin he'll take. LOL. Isn't it hilarious how men are so much like children sometimes? :smileywink:
