Do you need to lose weight before PG?

i know major dieting before and during pregnancy is a no-no, but at the same time, you should be in a healthy state when you do get pregnant, so it is a tough call.
As always, i was checking my calendar from last time i was TTC. i saw i was 128 before i got PG. i am now about 143 (a month ago i was 130, not sure what is up there, LOL) I am 5'6. i know this is not a horrible weight to be, i am about average.
BUT i gain 50 to 55 lbs when i am PG!! (yes, i eat healthy) i managed to lose it both times before, after a year i think. But i am already starting out about 15 lbs heavier!!
i really don't think i will do any dieting, i am breastfeeding and therefore ALWAYS STARVING. But it has crossed my mind that the weight will get harder and harder to take off! i'm not getting any younger, LOL (i am almost 38)
anyone thinking about this?

Hi ,
Hey Jen,
Well I am always needing too loose weight. I'm about 187 right now and need too loose about 20 pounds.
Oh yeah and I'm 5 7 which is just an inch taller then you but I know it can be different for different body types too.
Well, I am not one to ask really, since I am underweight.
But I tend to gain a lot with my pregnancies(well this is only my second, but so far I'm getting up there)
But my first I gained almost 40 and the doctor said as long as you can lose it all, you didn't gain too much weight.
(For example, I have a friend that gained 60 with each kid, and lost it alL. I have another friend that gained 90 lb. with each, and lost it all both times)
j8nny,has your kid started slowing down on the breastfeeding? I mean, my sister is still BFing her 18 month old, and she is slowly starting to gain weight, since
I lost about 40 lbs befor emy first pregnancy - not relaly on purpose, we had cut out hydrogenated oil, and the weight just naturally came off, it was awesome. but then my birth teacher gave me a hard time, like as if i cared more about my body image than health, told me i shouldnt have dieted. oh BTW that lady was an idiot, LOL. so anyway, i started my first PG around 125 or so i think,.I craved protein like a tiger, and gained 50 lbs. i grew a nice strong baby tho - i am a big believer in lots of protein during pregnancy. And all healthy foods, but protein is imp't. makes the sac strong too. I lost the weight just over the course of the yar, breastfeeing, normal activity, healthy diet. no complaints.
The second pregnancy was the same deal, altho i gained 55 lbs, and lost it much faster!! i carried differently. i was all belly, but with my DD, i was plump all over.
OH i should say that of course, after giving birth, i was like 20 lbs lighter, so i had to lose about 30.
My Ob never gave me a hard time about the weight gain, they just asked if i was eating healthy food, and i was, so they said whatever you need to gain, you do it. i love my OB, they don't just look in a book and say, oops! you are supposed to gain 25 lbs!!

Ya, i always used to be underweight when i was a vegetarian, i was about 108-115! but i am more normal at 125-130 i think. i naturally fall to that weight.
i'd say my DS has slowed somewhat, he doesnt nurse during the day so much, sometimes oncce. but he nurses a lot at night (AAAAH!!! :( BUt i am still ravenous, so i know he is still taking a lot out of me, LOL.
i do not have a very hard time losing, but i just dont know if i feel like doing it now, LOL. I really dont ever want to do anything special (diets, exercise routine) i prefer to rely on just a normal everyday diet, and my normal daily activity to keep me to size, becuase obviously it is not hard to stick with it, if it IS one's routine.
But i think, yes, edgar has slowed down nursing, but i am still eating 2 dinners, LOL as he has started on nursing more againi think, and that is why i have gained a few lbs.

I'm up about 30lbs from January. I went up 20lbs in one month back in April because I had two rounds of prednisone (steroid for my lungs) :(. It totally kicked my butt!! I'm technically overweight but I'm by no means fat. I have just been trying to eat healthy and not to snack. So far so good. I've lost about 5 lbs in two weeks. I know it's not a huge accomplishment but it's the safer way to do it. Slow
I am 5'7 and when I got preggo with both kids I was around 230...yikes I know...somehow I carry it well though...With my hypothyroidism and stuff the last year has been hell trying to get it all under control.
I am at 232 right now...yikes...but it's better than the 248 I was 2 months ago (my TSH numbers have been over 25 and they are supposed to be under 3) so, I am eating right and going to buy a stationary bike this weekend...I think as long as you don't do crash diets and lost over 10 pounds a month...it won't hurt your chances of TTC.
I did WW the first 25 weeks of my pregnancy with DD #2 and gained 5 pounds total...and that was ok because I was eating really well and I was heavy to begin with.
I'm overweight. I have lost like 40 pounds in the last year, and would like to lose some more. I weigh a bit less than I did when I got pg with DD in 2004. My doctors didn't want me to diet when I was pregnant, and only one doctor--who I have mentioned before on here and is a total jerk, called me "high risk" because of my weight. The others said I was fine, baby was fine, blood pressure fine, weight gain was good. I think had only gained about 20 pounds until the last month, and then I put on a lot of water weight gain and was reaaaaaaaaaally swollen. So when I had her I lost everything I had gained, but then went on to gain some weight in the next year or so, that's what I have lost.
Anyway, I am trying to avoid really bad things for me, and also since I have been in Germany DH's mom makes some of the yummiest stuff that is really pretty good for you. I also get a lot more exercise here. People here walk and ride bikes a whole lot more to get places, and also the playground I take DD to is just the right amount of a walk for me and I like to take her often.
:) There's my story. haha.
