Hello i was just wondering if caffine had an impact on trying to conceive. Many people have told me to stop drinking diet soda because it has caffine and if i was serious about having a baby then i should not drink it. Does anybody have any thoughts on this issue?

There are many studies that show that there is a link between caffeine consuption and ttc. Too much caffeine isn't good for anyone. I have heard, though, that one or two servings a day (a 6 oz. cup of coffee is considered a serving) is okay. I LOVE coffee but have cut it out completely and am drinking decaffeinated green tea everyday instead. I figure that anything that I can do to increase my chances is a good thing. You will probably be okay having a diet soda every day if you just can't give it up.

Good luck to you.

I agree, just as with everything else, we have to take it in moderation. I think anyone who tells you that you are not serious about having a baby if you drink caffene is a little harsh. I cut it down consideraby from about cd7 on.

Monique,

Thank you so much for your info. I know i have about three sodas a day, but they are all diet. I am going to have a hard time giving them up until i see that BFP sign. Then i will not drink them anymore. I know i should give them up sooner, but i figure why? When i do see that sign i will be more than happy to just drink caffine free soda. I do drink a lot of water though so i guess that is a good thing. I hope i am prego this month but i have to wait at least eight more days to test. My last period started on Aug. 23rd. and my cycles are usually 36 days long. But since i have been off the pill (since last Oct.) every cycle comes closer to 28 days, so maybe i caught the O this time. We will just have to see.

Stay away from diet soda if you are pregnant or ttc. The NutraSweet is a big NO NO! It is much better to drink regular soda - the natural sugar is much better for you than synthetic. Yea! Now we have an excuse to drink reg soda ;)

I agree that it is better to drink water or green tea instead (some study I read showed that green tea was helpful in TTC). I have heard that it is good for DH/SO to drink some caffeine about an hour before BD'ing to "get things moving". When I got pg with DD, I drank a DR. Pepper at least once a day and Whammo! This time I started out dropping all caffeine except an occasional iced tea now and then and it hasn't helped yet! The past couple of weeks I started having my morning cup again, but that is about all. One of my friends got pg even when she still drank her morning brew. I would advise not to drink more than a cup though, but that is just my opinion! I guess we'll see what happens! Good luck though!

Hi all,

My RE told me that some diet soda is fine, so long as there aren't any other fertility problems. In my case, I'm ovulating on my own and things are fine, so I'm still having diet soda once in a while (although I only buy decaffienated Diet Coke just in case!)

Best of luck to you - many doctors differ on this opinion, so go with whatever your doctor recommends.
