Please if there is anyone that has had uterine fibroids, can you tell me what your experience was (or is) like?

I just got a call from my Dr.'s office and found out I have uterine fibroids. They called me to come in tomorrow to go over everything, but in the meantime I am going out of my mind with worries that I may not be able to get PG.

The only thing that they told me was that my uterus was enlarged and that I have Uterine Fibroids.

Thank you for your help - I have read everything I can find on the net on "what they are" - but I cant find any info on personal experiences.

Thanks again in advance!

(((hugs))) Steph, No info but just support.

Oh yeah and remember the whole change Doctor things, the other doctor didn't even order tests that would have found this. I'm so glad you changed. It's a great reminder for us to "Go with our Gut" when you don't feel right about your Dr./Situation.

Hey Stephanie,

I can't give you any medical terminology or advice about them but I can tell you that I had a fibroid surgically removed about 3 years ago. The reason they finally found it was that AF's had gotten really heavy, extended to 10-14 days and were really painful. They found it using ultrasound. My doctor told me that if I had tried to get pregnant at that time, it never would have happened because it was completely blocking the passage for the little swimmers. I don't know if they can be cancerous or not, hopefully someone else will come along that can give you more information on it. Mine were not but because of the pain involved, I had it removed. BTW, fibroids are heredity as far *as I know*. My mom and several of my sisters have had them.

Hello there, try not to go crazy and get all upset. Many women get fibroids that don't interrupt with the ability to have children. It depends on their size and where they're located. Another thing is that they they can be removed through various procedures. Please don't worry I'm TTC#2 and i have many ovarian cysts but as far as the doctor is concerned they won't interfere with pg. Good luck and try not to worry.

I don't have any personal experience to offer, but I will agree with the others in that you try not to get upset. I know that when you first get this news, your mind runs wild and thinks of the worst case scenario(at least I do), but there is practically NOTHING that cannot be over come in TTC. There is always a solution. Hang in there sweetie! I hope someone else has more experience to offer you.

Stephanie,

I wanted to emphasize that the fibroid I had is not stopping me from conceiving right now. The only reason I had it removed was due to the long AF time and pain associated with it. Only after my doctor removed it did she tell me the size of it and that I would have had problems conceiving because it was blocking my tubes.

Please don't take anything I said to mean that you will have problems. I'm sure your doctor will give you the best advice and options you have available. BTW, none of my sisters or mom had to have any surgery because of theirs and they all have children :)
