DTap Shot or Stay Away???

So, my SIL is giving birth to her third sometime this week. I am already having enough emotional issues with this, since she started trying when I found out I was PG, then conceive the same month I was supposed to have my peanut. Here I am, TTC for almost three years, and she has been blessed with another child.

Anyway, she told the family that we all had to get this vaccine, called the DTap. It is basically for whooping cough, because I guess it is going around. So everyone in my family literally drops everything they are doing and run out to get the shot. I actually think about this, and do research.

I am worried that if, by some miracle, I am pregnant, there is no way I want a vaccine that may or may not impact my health or the health of my baby. And even if I find out that I am not, I am not a fan of getting a shot that I really don't need. I have had bad reactions to meds in the past, and I am really not comfortable.

But then I was told that I won't be able to hold my own niece if I don't get the shot! First of all, the doctor recommended that we get the shot, it is not mandatory! So now this adds to my heartache about the new baby! What should I do? I am the only one who is not getting the shot, but I have my reasons. Should I, for once, put my own needs first...or just break down and get the thing for the sake of my family?

Most people are vaccinated against Whooping Cough as an infant so adults usually don't have to worry about it and while it is contagious adults usually don't get it even if they didn't have the vaccine. I used to work in a daycare and was exposed to it numerous times and never got it. If you choose to get

I personally am very weary of any vacs. or shots and am glad you did decide to do a bit of research before running to the dr. office.
