Is an Endoscopy safe when TTC?

Hi,

I wonder if any of you could give me your opinions?

Every year the hospital send for me to have an Endoscopy (camera up the rear end).

This isn't due to anything life threatening.

It's because I had my colon removed 12 years ago due to having ulcerative colitas, and having a new pouch (to act as a new colon) made from my small intestine.

They like to check it out every year. And every year it's fine. Actually, they once forgot me for 5 years and all was still fine :-)

However, they have just sent me a letter asking me to call and schedule the endoscopy for this year.

I am concerned that it might not be the best idea when TTC.

I don't like the idea of a potential little bean being disturbed by anything rumaging around up my rear end.

After all your intestines are quite close to your womb aren't they?

I don't like the procedure anyway, they pump air inside you and it's uncomfortable and not exactly pleasant and I know it raises my heart rate because it stresses me out.

You can have a sedative, but obviously that wouldn't be OK in the 2 WW. And I don't like the idea of having it done during AF week, because you have to have your pants off etc.

I'm thinking of ringing them and asking them to defer the procedure for a year, because if i just ignor the letter they take you off their list and complain to your GP.

I just don't want to risk a potential pregnancy for something that isn't life threatening.

Has anyone got any thoughts?

Thanks

Julie

The times I've had an endoscopy the hospital always does a pregnancy test first. Maybe you could ask if their tests are sensitive enough to detect a very early pregnancy.
