Should you do rigorous exercise when you're TTC? I've read differing opoinions on it. I've kept my exercise to just walking for now, but I'd prefer to keep up with my regular aerobics.

I have been told by my doctor that doing whatever amount of exercise your body is used to doing should not cause any problems with your pregnancy, so you should be fine doing aerobics as long as you have been doing regularly before TTC. If you are exercising for long periods of time (ie greater than an hour or two), just make sure you eat some during your exercising. In any case, always stay well hydrated and try to avoid exercising in really hot and humid conditions. I am a cyclist and am training for a 100 mile ride; we were going to wait to TTC until after the ride (I m/c in June and started riding again after that), but we got anxious and there is a possibility I could be pregnant! I called my doctor today to see if I should not do our 65 mile training ride this weekend and she said as long as I keep my glucose up and stay well hydrated, I should be fine She also told me there is no data to show vigorous exercise causes m/c. However I do know a friend of mine's doctor had her take it easy her first trimester, but they did IVF to get pregnant.

Good luck!

I'm a long distance runner and continued to run up until the day I went into labor. I've spent alot of time researching the effects of exercise and pregnancy and have found that it is considered safe to CONTINUE (not start) exercising throughout pregnancy as long as you have no previous history of premature labor and/or miscarriages.

As far as TTC and exercising, as long as your periods have stayed normal, you shouldn't have a problem conceiving. Some women (myself included) however, may find that they get a condition called athletic amenorrhoea where they're periods stop all together due to too much vigorous exercise. In most cases, simply taking it down a notch or two should help your period resume.

A good book to look into is called "Exercising Through Your Pregnancy" by Dr. Clapp. I highly recommend checking it out.
