first meeting with fertility specialist
| Mon, 02-16-2009 - 9:56am |
My husband and I have our first consultation with the fertility specialist on Wednesday. Can anyone tell me what I might expect? I was only told that it will just be an evaluation - no testing will be done on Wednesday. I'm sure he may schedule testing though.
Also ... my insurance does cover everything. I only have to pay my co-payment. Would treatments (IUI or IVF) be considered day surgical procedures or in-patient services, or just a regular office visit I wonder?

You'll likely have to fill out a bunch of forms w/info on everything from when you first started your period, to how frequently you & dh have sex, medical history & sexual history, any meds you've taken in the last year, etc.
Yes they did send a bunch of paperwork which I am filling out now with all of that background information. I have to bring it to me. Wednesday will be CD7 for me, so it will be too late to do the CD3 tests, so I may have to wait until next cycle to even perform any of those blood tests I guess.
Congrats on your BFP!

Thanks for checking in. It went good. Basically the plan is this ... if nothing happens this cycle, I will call on CD1 and make an appt to come into their office on CD3 to do the bloodwork that will check the egg quality. They will also schedule the HSG at that time, which will be about a week after that. So all of this will be mid-March, if need be. In the meantime, DH has to bring in his specimen. We will meet up with him again on April 1st to discuss all of the results.
I brought in my charts and he said they were the kind of charts you'd see in textbooks and look great - that clearly I am ovulating and on a very regular schedule. He said that I'm not wrong to be concerned - in 85% of couples it happens within 7 months, 50% of couples get pregnant in the first 3, he said. But, he did say most everything can be overcome so not to worry.
I hope that it happens naturally this cycle and maybe I won't even need these tests. Fingers crossed!
How about you - are you temping this month? He told me that he recommends "regular intercourse," more than temping. He said its not going to hurt but I'm probably stressing over it and spending $ on OPKs and stuff. I do like to temp though because I know I get AF at 14DPO so I do like to know when I O exactly so I can know what to expect.

Hey girls! I remember you all from some boards before. Ive kinda moved over to clomid/ovulation board, but check these every so often still.
Froggrl...I didnt know you got a BFP! Congrats! Im so happy you finally got your turn. What did you do different this time?
Lilargie...glad youre seeing a specialist now. I hope he/she sets a good plan out for you! So the HSG, is that the trigger shot? Is the RE suggesting anything specific, like IUI yet? I hope things work out soon enough!
Lilmcd...how are things with you? I think I saw you on a waiting to O board. So now youre in the TWW?
This month, I took my first dose of Clomid CD2-6. Im on CD9 and just waiting to O. Then on CD21 I'll go in for bw to see if I did O. Im just hoping I O before CD30 for a change! Other than that, we're just BDing almost everyday from now till I get a temp jump. Maybe Ill do some OPKs. But really theyve always been a waste for me. Id get the month supply and still never get a positive!
Good luck girls..!
I did get a bfp, but it's a chemical pg so I'm now just waiting for af to start sometime soon. :-(
Your doc seems very encouraging.
Nope, not in the two week wait yet.
Holly, Im so sorry. I was looking at your signature chart. Well I hope the IUI works again.
Lyn-if you're pretty regular, then I wouldnt worry about temping. I temp cause my cycles go from 35-50 some days. So OPKs are worthless and temping is the only way I can see if I actually O and when AF will come. Everyone should do what works best for them.
Here's to Oing soon...
