I just recently had the flu, stomach flu that is, in December. If you have "the flu" as most people think of it, like cold and flu, you will not be vomiting. Influenza or "the flu" is actually a chest/respiratory virus, not a stomach virus. A cold and the flu are very similar which is why it's hard to tell which one it is you actually have.
The stomach flu however is a digestive track virus which makes you have diarrhea and/or vomiting. It typically comes on quickly and passes within 24-48 hours, depending on how bad you have it. It can also come with a fever. Food poisoning is similar to the stomach flu, but you usually don't get a fever. This is what the urgent care doctor told me. I had a moderate to high fever with chills, vomiting, etc. It was gone in 24 hours.
In my pregnancy books it says morning sickness can begin anywhere from 2-8 weeks fetal age, which means at least 4 weeks along total or 2 weeks from conception. So, 8dpo sounds like it might be a little early if conception would have happened 8 days ago. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/symptoms-of-pregnancy/PR00102
But maybe you're just really sensitive to hormones? You might want to call your doctor just in case it's something more serious. Hope you get good news soon!
NOTE: I am not a medical doctor and this is not medical advice. It's just my opinion from experience and things I've read.
Wow...you sound just like me.
