Just started TTC this month and I noticed a lot of people saying they really miss alcohol and caffeine and even not taking allergy medicine. Nobody has really cautioned me about any of this-Dont get me wrong Im not a regular alcohol drinker but I always have coffee should I quit it all right away?? I dont want anything to get in the way!!!

Sheri, I think the main problem if you partake in caffeine, alcohol, etc. is that you don't know when you actually conceive. Those couple of weeks prior to finding out are key in the developmental process, so a lot of women choose to stop or restrict their intake.

Along the same line, all women of childbearing age should be taking a supplement containing folic acid. Folic Acid has been proven to prevent certain birth defects. If you are not taking a vitamin containing it, you should talk to yur Dr. (I hope this doesn't come out preachy!!)

as far as caffine goes DH should stop taking it, My Dh had a low end sperm count of 15 mil the DR. prefers to see at least 20 mil. so he told DH to cut down or out his caffine intake and know his count is around 25 mil. and DH also takes a vitamin E and Zinc supplement.

I have cut out my Caffine also, and starting a pre natal vitamin before conceiving is best so that your body builds up the nutrients it may need for a baby.

Thanks. I am taking Pre-Natal Vitamins and have been for 4 months. I decided to quit the caffeine and alcohol. The only one I will actually miss is the caffeine- I get to work at 6.30am and im not a morning person. Im sure Water will be better for me anyway!

I still drink a small amount of caffiene (either 1 cup of tea, or a cup of coffee that is half decaf). But I have read that a lot of caffeine consumption may keep youy from ovulating. Since I deal with college students all day, I figure that some mornings I still need to have some. Just limit yourself, or start adding more decaf to you coffee slowly. It is actually pretty simple to break the habit that way, I discovered.
