I just found out yesterday that the reason I am almost three weeks late is because I didn't ovulate last month...this is the first time in my whole life this has happened..I have always been regular...my dr wants to put me on provera and then get an ovulation predictor kit...has anyone ever been on provera?? And what is everyone's experience with these ovulation kits?? What is the best/accurate kind?? I am kind of scared that because I didn't ovulate last month that something is wrong with me...help???

Relax... you're fine. Sometimes our bodies just don't cooperate with us is all.

PROGESTERONE: I've taken both a generic form of progesterone, as well as the brand name Prometrium (which is a highly micronized form of prog). It's relatively harmless; I had absolutely zero side effects on the generic. On the Prometrium, because it absorbs so well, the major side effect is dizziness. Just take the pill at night before you go to bed and you can sleep right through the side effects. (Oh, and DON'T take Prometrium with food.)

OPKs: I'm not sure which brand is supposedly the most accurate. I've been buying Clearblue because a box of that includes 7 test sticks, vs. 5 sticks in other brands... the per-stick cost just ends up lower with Clearblue.

OVULATION: Hopefully a progesterone cycle will be enough to "kick-start" your system. However, it's possible that even with a clockwork-regular period all these years that you may not have ovulated each month. Make sure you and your doctor find out if you are ovulating; if you're not, you might ask about Clomid or other methods to induce ovulation while you TTC. It's common for a lot of us to be on a form of progesterone, then to take Clomid in the ensuing cycle.

Good luck, and please keep coming back to these boards. There are a lot of helpful people out here who can (hopefully) ease your mind.

Hi,

I have used several types of OPK's. Cheaper is not better. I tried one of the cheaper brands and it was giving me negative results. I bought a First Response OPK and tested with that and a cheap brand and got a positive result with the First Response. I have been using that brand and it gives clear, crisp results. That is my experience. Hope that helps!

Thank you for your responses...it really helps that there are people out there that understand. AF started very slowly this morning. I guess I am in for a really bad period...so should I still get the provera in case I don't start next month on time?? I am excited about getting an ovulation kit...I really have not kept close track of anything....we have been trying for a long time...anyway..thank you all again...
