How long after o does temp spike?

When does the temp spike occure? When the egg is first released, or after the 24 hours after it's been released? And, if it's after the 24 hours (that in which a egg lives) how long after? For instance, if I ovulated yesterday, would I see a spike today or does it take a couple of days?

Here's my chart if anyone would like to comment

Good question Susan, I was wondering the same thing as I think I O'ed today or tomorrow (I have cramping and other symptoms now but I could still O tomorrow) I heard it was AFTER you O'ed, you'd notice it the next day upon taking your temp. This is what I read on other post anyways from those who temp (I currently do not but am next cycle) so I think you would of noticed it today if you O'ed yesterday. Did you notice a temp spike today when you took your temp?

Hi Susan, from what I've heard, your temp. will spike right after you O. From your chart I would say you o'd yesterday (cd13). It is a bit early to tell but that's what it looks like to me. If I were drawing your chart I'd wait a couple days to make sure your temps stay high and then draw the coverline at 97.6. I don't know if that is what FF will do (I haven't been able to figure their methods out yet, my last cycle was a bit weird but I think I o'd and FF never did give me a coverline, I drew my own on my hand drawn chart at home.)

Also, I am sorry for your loss. I am also ttc#2 after a m/c 8/03. I hope we both have a short stay here at the ttc boards. Good luck to you.

You'll usually see it in your temp the next day after O. This is because the follicle becomes the corpus luteum following ovulation; the corpus luteum emits progesterone which causes the temp increase.
