How long did you wait to see RE?

So DH and I are on cycle #8, been trying since June of this year. While I understand that most docs recommend you wait for 12 months to begin seeking out issues, I just can't shake this feeling of wanting to find out NOW!!! Even if DH and I were found to have no issues, it would make me feel better. I'm your typical Type-A personality, and the fact that I have even had to try for 7 months in a row, makes me feel like a down-right failure in my book. DH is 35, I am 27, so age is definitely on our side. Also, my cycles are VERY regular, withi 1-2 days each month. I get digital +opks every month, and a definite temp shift on my charts, so I truly believe I'm ovulating... any ideas ladies? I've got women all around me just 'popping up' pregnant, and it's driving me nuts over here!!!! People keep asking, 'any news yet?' and I have to keep sounding positive with a polite 'nope, nont yet!'. Ughhh....

So, question for all of you - for those that have/haven't seen an RE yet.... why or why not? How long were you trying before you went? Did you know you had any issues to be concerned about? How costly is the RE and/or procedures? Like many out there, I have ZERO fertility coverage.... I'm thinking about sending DH for an SA this month... a local, highly respected RE in town offers SA for $150, with no precription from your OB or urologist....

Stephanie, I completely understand your frustrations! DH & I have been TTC for 8 months now as well. I did talk with my OBGYN a month ago, and she ran some blood tests and did an u/s to rule out a couple of simple things. However, she wants me to wait until it's been 12 months to do any serious testing. We have infertility coverage on our insurance, so when the time comes (if it comes), we should be good to go and ready to start the tests.

Good luck. Waiting is by far the hardest part.

I would go to an RE as soon as you want to. I went early on but I have irregular cycles. So that's part of the reason I didn't have to wait for a year or even 6 months. Anyway, I think we as women, have to take control of our health and fertility and get things checked out. And if that means requesting to see an RE, I'd do it. I'm so glad i did. They know so much more about this.
