Hi there, i have just started trying to concieve about 2 months ago and nothing yet, i am a healthy 25 year old women and the dr. said it should be no prblem but i am somewhat anxious. how long usually on average does it take.

Hi- I am a healthy 28 year old and I think it just depends. The first time I got pg, it was in Sept 2002 and I got pg the first try- only bed once that month on o day. I then m/c in Nov 02. I have been trying now for 4 cycles with perfect timing and nothing. It just depends- everything has to be just right for it to happen.

It really varies... however here is a number to at least help.

If you take 10 couples and they have sex everyday without protection 7 of those couples will be pregnant at the end of the month. That's the stats for a single month. I don't know stats based on a single couple. However, the chances are if you keep it up by the end of a year you WILL be pregnant.

Just relax and enjoy. 2 months is still just starting out. If you don't come up pregnant in 6 more cycles that's about the time to seek out medical help and see what's going on :) ... also, if you were on the pill the first 3 cycles off the pill don't count. I thought I would mention that too.

I know I wasn't much help. In all likely hood you will be pregnant soon! :) Just keep trying. that's the fun part

Lisa...where did you get those numbers from? Reason I ask is..I've heard from most studies there's at most a 20 percent chance of pg with perfect timing each month. That would mean 2 out of 10 would get pregnant in a given month. Just curious.

actually for any given couple it's a 25% chance that they will concieve that month.

However, when you put many couples together and have them all unprotected the numbers show that 70% of the couples will concieve.

I don't have the location of where it was read now. Most of what I quote comes from webmd, cnn.com. and msnbc.com.

I have been using the same quote for years now trying to explain to people who aren't trying to concieve the risk they are taking after I read it.

You can get pg right off the pill. Some drs. say to wait two cycles then start actively trying, but that's just for dating the pregnancy. Most people take 6 months or more to get pregnant. Most drs. won't look at you for infertility issues until you've been trying 12+ months. Until then, just keep temping and keeping track of your cycles. I just came off the pill Jan. 31st and this is my 3rd cycle, so don't be anxious or give up hope!

It definitely varies per couple, but I've heard that w/in 6mo-1 yr after beginning to 'actively' ttc, most couples do get pg. I, too, am a healthy 20-something nervous-to-death who's been ttc about 5 mo. Good luck!

The average time for a fertile couple is 5 months. I think the stat is that 80-90% of fertile couples will conceive within 12 months. This is our 4th month trying and still nothing. I'm lucky enough to know when I O every month and we've timed it perfectly but it has to happen when it's meant to. It'll happen for you - try (as hard as it is) to be patient! Good luck.
