I've seen lots of questions this morning about HSG, I know it's a procedure, and from some of the posts I am gathering that they use a dye to check your ovaries, tubes and uterus?? Is that correct, I've never heard of this procedure and I feel a little lost.

TIA,

Lynn

Yes- it is a dye test where they inject dye through your cervix into your uterus and through your tubes. It allows it all to be seen on x-ray. It basically shows the shape of your uterus and whether your tubes are clear. It can clear tubes that have slight blockage. I had it done this cycle and it showed a malformed uterus for which I need surgery to correct to be able to get pg. The proceedure was not painful for me, but it can be depending on the state of your tubes and whether they have to force the dye or it flows through easily. It is a common first step in fertility testing.

Stephanie- I live in Canada so I can't help with the insurance coverage question- sorry. I did see a post elsewhere in our HSG questions this morning that it was said it was covered by her insurance as are all tests, but treatments are not covered.
